Chapter 9 - 8

Awakening of Abilities

Eunice POV

"Sissy!" I heard Dahlia's panicked voice from the bedroom as I ran up to my room.

"Yes, baby, what happened?" I asked her as she moved away from me.

"Sissy! Wahhh!" she started crying while trying to distance herself.

"What's wrong, baby?" I asked, attempting to move closer.

"Sissy, don't come close! Huhuhu," Dahlia cried as I pulled her into my arms.

"It's okay; see, I'm okay," I whispered, hugging her tightly.

"Sissy, I... I... I suddenly... I made... There's fire and... and... it came from my... my... hand!" she said, sobbing and explaining through her tears in my arms.

"Ohh, my baby girl, did you really? Can you show Sissy?" I asked, looking at her and smiling comfortingly.

"Yeah, but it's scary," she sobbed as I nodded, moving away.

She then summoned a purple fire, and I covered my mouth in shock as she extinguished the flames, crying harder. I was still in awe, looking at her with a mix of amazement and pride.

"My baby, I am so proud of you!" I rushed towards her, hugging her tightly and kissing her cheeks.

"Why, Sissy? I'm a monster," Dahlia cried, sniffing.

"No, you're amazing! You have purple flames; it's so cool!" I whispered, hugging her and rubbing her back.

"But isn't that how monsters are? I'm going to be sent to Area 51! Wahhh!" she whispered as I wiped her snot with a tissue.

"No, you're not. You have me; I'll keep it a secret, okay?" I whispered, kissing her forehead.

"But what if I can't control it?" she asked while snuggling against my chest.

"Then I will find a way to fix it," I reassured her, patting her back to help her breathe.

"Is Fifi okay?" she suddenly asked, looking up.

"Yes, Fifi is fine, and she's already eating," I replied, hugging her as I carried her down to the kitchen, where Fiona was still being spoon-fed by Genie.

"You okay, Lia?" Fiona asked, munching on fried chicken.

"Yeah, you?" Dahlia asked as I fed her a spoonful of rice after washing her hands.

"Eat up first, okay?" I said as Dahlia took the spoon from me and began feeding herself.

"Thank you, sissy," Dahlia said with a raspy voice as she ate on her own.

"NOONA!" Tom shouted, panicked.

"What?" I replied, telling Genie to stay and eat with the kids while comforting her. She nodded in understanding.

"Noona, look... look... what!?" Tom exclaimed, his lips quivering in confusion as he pointed at a clump of dirt on his bed.

"Don't worry, it's just a special ability, so breathe," I reassured him, knowing he would grasp the situation.

"Is it really that? If it is, are we entering the end of the world?" he asked, and I nodded.

"Unfortunately, yes. You need to understand the situation now, and I hope you'll feel better afterward—for yourself, Genie, and the baby," I said softly, rubbing his back comfortingly.

"I know and I understand the situation noona... Wait... WAIT! NOO!. Did you?! It was not a dream!!." Thomas exclaimed as he looked at me in disbelief to the clump of soil then back at me then at the door.

"I know your shock or excited but yes we did find her" I smiled assuring him as he looked at me.

"But if that's the case, how will we help Genie with labor?" he asked as he stood up, pacing around.

"I will find a way, okay?" I comforted him, gently pulling him back to sit.

"No, I have abilities—then you and the kids will be safe, right?" he asked, sitting beside me and ruffling his hair in frustration.

"Yes, and we will rely on you from now on," I said, leaning my head on his shoulder.

"Thanks, Noona; it helps..." *grumble* he was cut short by the sound of his stomach growling from hunger.

"Hahaha! Go ahead and eat. I'll teach you how to work on your ability later," I smiled, cleaning up his room while picking up the dustpan and sweeping away the dirt.

After breakfast, I sat with Thomas in his bedroom, teaching him how to control his power. Mastering this would be essential for enhancing his abilities in case of an emergency.

Thomas POV

In my bedroom, Noona sat on the chair at my drafting table while I lay on the mattress, waiting for her to speak. I had already finished taking a shower and eaten something to fill my stomach. I noticed that my appetite had increased significantly, which was fine; however, if what Noona had said was true, we would need to ration our food or find supplies on a weekly basis.

"Okay, so you are an earth ability user," she began.

"I guess you could say that. But Noona, did you also awaken? How do you know so much?" I asked, looking at her in amazement.

"Well, let's just say it pops into my brain," she replied with a smile as I took a seat at her desk.

"Your intelligence has grown, but Noona, that doesn't add up," I said, looking confused.

"It's like this for me: when I want information, it suddenly pops into my head. It doesn't work all the time; I think I have limited knowledge. But all I care about is that I can help you and everyone in our family." She patted my head.

"Noona, I believe you. I'm just confused and bewildered by everything that's happening. If we are experiencing heat now, sooner or later we might have sudden torrential rain, followed by winter. I think we should buy an apartment or find somewhere high, away from any sources of water." I stood up and walked to my computer to search for information on the weather and the latest news about water levels in the country.

"Yes, I have been thinking about this for a while now. We should buy it while there is still time. I still have some money, but it might not be enough," Noona said as I stood up and took out the cards I had hidden in my books.

"I have a few savings accounts, and this one is from my parents' savings as well as my grandparents' survivor benefits, pensions, and savings," I said, handing her all the cards.

"No, no, no! You should talk this over with Genie first before you decide," she insisted, giving the cards back.

"Noona, I trust you, but okay, I will talk to her," I replied, and she nodded.

"First things first. Sit down and try to connect with your ability, like meditation," she instructed. I followed her advice, sitting cross-legged on the mattress and closing my eyes.

"Fiona! Dahlia!" she called out, while I focused on my meditation.

---

Eunice POV

I called the two kids as I checked on how the three of them were meditating. Fiona seemed to be having a hard time. After a moment, I gathered them, along with Genie outside, to sit near the river and begin their meditation.

"Okay, you three, close your eyes and take a deep breath in, and then slowly breathe out. Keep it up. Genie, you can join in too; it will help calm your mind, and the baby will relax with you," I said, smiling at Genie, who looked curious.

"Okay, unnie," she replied shyly, sitting six feet away from Thomas.

"Now, try to connect with the energy you have inside. Take a deep breath in and slowly breathe out. Soothe your nerves and clear your mind. Keep your senses open. Listen to the call of nature. Does it feel like crackles of fire, the soothing breeze of air, the low rumble of the earth, or the swooshing sound of water? It may even be the buzzing of your mental abilities. It can also be a mix of everything. Again, take a deep breath in through your nose and slowly blow it out with your lips pursed," I instructed in a soothing manner as I took a seat on my foldable chair with my iPad, organizing the plot for the cave.

"Sissy," Fiona called, looking back and pointing at something in the air.

"What is it, Fi? Come here. Focus! The three of you, don't get distracted," I said, glancing at the three children, who were looking back at us.

"I see three red dots," Fiona said, still staring into the air.

I nodded and focused my thoughts, pulling the RV into my space. I placed my finger to my lips to signal silence, then I included the three meditating kids in my space along with Fiona. I walked back out, quickly climbing the falls and using rocks to hide the entrance to the cave. I waited there with a sniper rifle, taking out Fiona to monitor any movement.

"I think you can share what you see. Try to let me see it in your mind," I whispered as she nodded, closing her eyes.

"I can do it, sissy, but can you see?" she asked, opening her eyes again.

"Yeah, okay. Do you feel uncomfortable?" I inquired while observing the three dots moving toward the area where I had parked the RV.

"No, I feel okay, Noona, but can you see if I press this?" she asked, pressing on the first dot.

"Yes! Oh, and it's those guys from the market last time," I whispered as I quickly changed into camouflage pants and a jacket, glancing at my map and moving toward the nearest tree.

"Are you jumping, sissy?" Fiona whispered back, giggling.

"Yeah! Do you believe in me, Fi?" I asked, lifting her into my arms as I stepped back to take a leap toward a big branch.

Fiona kept giggling, covering her mouth with her hands as I helped her sit on the branch while I looked at the map. I could see the three men walking toward our location, so I motioned for Fiona to keep quiet. When the men got closer, I pulled Fiona back into my space, using my scope to observe their movements.

Third Person POV

|The three goons|

"We've been tracking that bitch's traces, and it led us into the forest," said a skinny man with a cigar lodged in his mouth.

"Shut up, Leo. You might give us away with that mouth," the tall guy replied, holding his gun and scanning the area.

"Zen, if you want to act like an action star, go for it. She's just a stupid woman," Leo retorted, patting Zen on the back.

"Both of you shut up, or we might fail this mission assigned by the Madam," the bulky guy scolded, ceasing his lookout.

"Yes, boss Wade!" the two lanky ones responded in unison, looking around carefully as they spotted the tracks left by the RV.

"Boss, this looks like a fresh track," Leo said, crouching to touch a patch of water from the air conditioning drips.

"They must be here somewhere, or they've already left," Zen suggested, kneeling down to inspect the puddle.

"Let's split up and find clues. Madam told us to look for that bitch and kill her along with those two brats," Leo said, wiping his mouth.

"Maybe have some fun too," Zen winked, a grin spreading across his face.

---

|On top of the tree|

Eunice observed through her scope, fixing her gaze on the tall guy. Wearing gloves to avoid leaving any fingerprints, she meticulously wiped the bullets clean before loading them one by one into her rifle. A smirk spread across her face as she watched the other goons scattering in different directions, her fox-like eyes glinting with sinister satisfaction. Tilting her head to the right, she calibrated her aim, ensuring a perfect shot.

With precise focus, she noted the movement of the tall guy as he approached the river. She affixed the silencer to her semi-automatic rifle, then carefully descended from the tree, taking care to stay out of sight of the two remaining goons. Dropping into a low kneeling position, she pulled the trigger. The tall guy, who had been looking intently into the water, fell with a splash, a clear bullet hole visible at the back of his head.

SWOOOOSHHH!

Loud Splash!

"What the fuck was that?" Leo shouted, racing toward the noise to meet Wade.

"She must be around here," Wade said, scanning the surroundings.

"Boss, it's Zen!" Leo called out, noticing a streak of red trailing toward Zen, who was floating lifelessly in the river.

"Shut the fuck up, you idiot!" Wade barked, kicking at Leo but halting when he spotted Zen's dead body.

"Brother, I'll get him!" Leo panicked, leaping into the water.

"These idiots," Wade grumbled, pulling out his gun.

Eunice shadowed their movements, slowly targeting them as Wade attempted to retrieve the dead tall guy from the water.

SWOOOOOSH!

"Damn it!" Wade cursed, rolling away into the grass as the bullet missed.

"Boss!" Leo screamed, narrowly avoiding the shot meant for him.

"You bastard! Let go of Zen; he's dead!" Wade shouted, crawling toward a nearby rock.

"But he's my friend, boss!" Leo protested, still tugging Zen out of the water in desperation.

"Let go and hide, damn it!" Wade urged, dragging Leo behind the rocks.

"Brother Zen, I'll look for you down the stream!" Leo called back as he ran.

Seizing the opportunity, Eunice stealthily moved toward the trees bordering the rocks they were using for cover. She retrieved a bottle of sleeping powder, a concoction of herbs found in her space, and used the wind to disperse it toward the two men.

"Brother, can you smell that?" Leo asked, taking a deep whiff and starting to feel dizzy.

"This dumbass," Wade muttered, inhaling the powder before quickly covering his nose and mouth.

"I think..." Leo's voice trailed off as he succumbed to darkness, collapsing with a thud.

"Fuck it," Wade muttered, swinging his gun around, desperately trying to maintain his alertness despite the creeping haze clouding his senses.

"Who sent you?" Eunice's voice echoed from above the rocks, but when Wade swung his gun in that direction, there was nobody there.

"Get out, you bitch!" Wade shouted, moving cautiously away from the rock, his heart racing as he scanned the area for any sign of her.

"Scared now?" Eunice's voice echoed as she leaned against the tree. Wade aimed his gun at her, but she suddenly disappeared.

Moments later, Eunice appeared behind him, pushing him down. Startled, he dropped the gun while trying to brace for the impact. Eunice quickly kicked the gun away and pressed him down, using a handcuff to lock his left arm and right leg behind him. She then pulled out a rope from her bag to secure his right arm and legs.

"Now we talk," Eunice said coldly, aiming the gun at Wade's head.

"I won't talk, you bitch!" Wade screamed, squirming in an attempt to loosen the ropes.
