Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 โ€” Fog, Fire, and the Thing That Listened

Night fell too fast on the cliff ๐ŸŒ™

Not gently.

Not politely.

One moment there was dusk ๐ŸŒ†

The nextโ€”

white fog wrapped around the cabin like something alive ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

Thick.

Breathing.

Pressing its face against the windows ๐ŸชŸ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Cold air hummed against the wooden walls โ„๏ธ

A low sound.

Like the mountain was whispering secrets it never meant to share ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿซฅ

Inside the cabin ๐Ÿก

The fireplace glowed softly ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Orange light danced across the walls

Shadows stretched too long

And then stretched some more ๐Ÿ‘€

A strange peace settled in.

The kind that comes right before something goes wrong โš ๏ธ

Inside the Cabin โ€” A Very Wrong Family

Walter was already sitting cross-legged on the carpet ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Holding a flashlight under his chin ๐Ÿ”ฆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

His face looked like a haunted potato.

Miko was near the small table ๐Ÿต

Carefully pouring tea

Hands steady

But shoulders tense ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Barfi sat near the window ๐ŸชŸ

Fixing an old lantern

Movements slow

Precise

Silent ๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ˜

Hawk checked every window ๐Ÿ”

Then checked them again

Then locked the door ๐Ÿ”’

Then checked it again ๐Ÿ˜‘

Dr. Putin sat at the table โœ๏ธ

Notebook open

Pen moving

Eyes sharp but calm ๐Ÿง

Five people.

Five very different rhythms.

Strangeโ€ฆ

But comfortable ๐Ÿค

Walter Decides to Ruin Everything ๐ŸŽญ

Walter clapped loudly ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ฅ

"EVERYBODY SIT." ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

"It's time for SCARY STORIES." ๐Ÿ‘ป

Hawk groaned instantly ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

"Walterโ€”"

"No interruptions!" Walter snapped โœ‹

"This is therapy."

Dr. Putin raised an eyebrow ๐Ÿคจ

"That is not therapy in any world."

Walter ignored him completely ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Lowered his voice dramatically ๐ŸŽค

"Long agoโ€ฆ

in a cold mountain cabin like thisโ€ฆ" ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿก

Miko sat beside Barfi

Pulling a blanket around her shoulders ๐Ÿงฃ

She didn't touch him

But she sat close ๐Ÿค

Walter continued, whispering:

"โ€ฆthere lived a ghost called kk ๐Ÿ‘ป

who hunted people

who didn't clean their blankets properlyโ€”"

Hawk frowned ๐Ÿ˜

"That's not even a name."

Walter gasped theatrically ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

"She broke BLANKETS!

What do you want her namedโ€”STEVE!?"

Barfi blinked once ๐Ÿ˜

"Ghosts don't exist."

Walter pointed at him like a prosecutor ๐Ÿ‘‰

"That's what the first victim said!"

Miko giggled ๐Ÿคญ

A small sound

Light

Real

Barfi's lips twitched ๐Ÿ™‚

Not a smile

But close

Quiet Moment โ€” A Crack in the Wall ๐ŸŒฑ

Walter eventually scared himself ๐Ÿ˜จ

Ran to the bathroom "to check the pipes" ๐Ÿšฝ

And locked the door from inside ๐Ÿ”’

The cabin grew quiet.

Just fire crackling ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Wind humming ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

Fog breathing ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

Miko looked at Barfi ๐Ÿค

"Are youโ€ฆ feeling a little better today?"

Barfi stared into the fire

Watching flames fold into themselves

"I don't know." ๐Ÿ˜

"You liked the view," she said softly ๐ŸŒ„

He nodded.

"It was peaceful."

Miko smiled gently ๐Ÿ˜Š

"That's a feeling."

Barfi looked at her

Just for a second

Longer than usual ๐Ÿ‘€

"โ€ฆMaybe."

Her heart warmed ๐Ÿ’“

Neither of them noticed

A thin black book on the shelf ๐Ÿ“–

Half-hidden

Waiting

The Book ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ–ค

Later, curiosity got the better of Miko.

She wandered the cabin ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

Fingers tracing old wood

Breathing in dust and cold air

Thenโ€”

She stopped.

"โ€ฆA book?" ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Thin.

Black.

No title.

Dusty.

Cold to the touch ๐Ÿฅถ

She carried it carefully back to the group ๐Ÿคฒ

"I found this behind the firewood."

Walter peeked over her shoulder ๐Ÿ‘€

"Is it cursed!?" ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Hawk grabbed his collar instantly ๐Ÿค

"STOP SAYING THAT."

Dr. Putin adjusted his glasses ๐Ÿค“

"Let me see."

He opened it slowly ๐Ÿ“–

Everyone leaned in.

Symbols.

Shapes.

Strange diagrams ๐Ÿ”บ๐ŸŒ€

Some mathematical

Some psychological

Someโ€ฆ wrong

Hawk frowned ๐Ÿ˜

"Looks like nonsense."

The fire crackled louder ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Like it disagreed

Dr. Putin inhaled slowly ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

"โ€ฆThis isn't nonsense."

The room went still.

"It's a record," he said quietly.

"A story."

"And a warning." โš ๏ธ

The Family and the Bear ๐Ÿป

Dr. Putin began to read.

"Long agoโ€ฆ

a small family lived in this very cabin."

Miko shivered โ„๏ธ

"Grandmother, father, and three sons."

Walter squeaked ๐Ÿญ

"We're going to die."

Hawk kicked his leg under the table ๐Ÿ‘ข

"Behind their cabin," Dr. Putin continued,

"lived a wild bear."

He turned the page.

A charcoal drawing ๐Ÿ–ค

A massive bear

Gentle eyes

"This bear grew up beside the youngest son.

He loved the bear like a friend." ๐Ÿค

Barfi listened

Unblinking

"But the rest of the familyโ€ฆ"

Dr. Putin's voice dropped

"They beat the bear.

For amusement."

Miko covered her mouth ๐Ÿ˜จ

"That's horribleโ€ฆ"

"They kicked it.

Starved it.

Tied it.

Mocked it."

Walter whispered angrily ๐Ÿ˜

"Those people deserve lifelong homework."

Only the grandmother was kind.

She gave the youngest son a black book before she died ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ–ค

The Bear Dies ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿป

"One winter nightโ€ฆ"

Dr. Putin read

"The beating went too far."

The page showed a broken bear

Half-crushed

Still

Only Barfi didn't flinch ๐Ÿ˜

The boy screamed for help.

The family laughed.

When the bear diedโ€ฆ

The boy began seeing it.

A shadow in the snow ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ

Bleeding

Crying

Calling his name ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

The Ritual ๐Ÿฉธ

"To save his friend,"

Dr. Putin said quietly

"The boy used the book."

Walter gulped ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

"Please don't sayโ€”"

"Yes," Dr. Putin nodded.

The ritual pulled something back.

Not the bear's soul.

But the boy's grief.

Rage.

Pain.

Fear.

The bear rose again.

Not a bear.

A demon ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿป

Half-dead

Half-wrong

It killed the father.

Then the brothers.

Then burned the cabin ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Only the boy survived.

Broken.

The Seal ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

Dr. Putin turned the last pages.

The handwriting shook.

"Four men and one girl," he read,

"must enter the cabinโ€ฆ

for the demon to awaken."

Silence.

Hawk counted silently.

Barfi.

Walter.

Hawk.

Dr. Putin.

Miko.

Five.

Walter screamed into a pillow ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

"WHY DID WE BRING THE GIRL!?"

Miko punched his arm ๐Ÿ’ฅ

"SHUT UP!"

Dr. Putin read the final rules:

Do not leave the house at night ๐Ÿšซ๐ŸŒ™

Your answers lie inside ๐Ÿก

Break either ruleโ€ฆ

and it will rise

The book grew hot ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Smoke curled upward ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

Miko gasped ๐Ÿ˜จ

"Doctorโ€”!"

The book fell.

Hit the floor.

And burned.

Black-blue fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ–ค

Cold fire

Silent fire

Hawk tried to stomp it ๐Ÿ‘ข

The flames crawled around his boot

Barfi watched

Eyes sharp

Heartโ€ฆ faster ๐Ÿ’“

The book turned to ash.

The cabin fell silent.

The fireplace dimmed.

And outsideโ€”

Something moved in the fog ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Breathing

Slow

Heavy

Walter whispered:

"โ€ฆIt woke upโ€ฆ didn't it?"

No one answered.

Barfi looked toward the window ๐ŸชŸ

And for the first time in daysโ€”

His heartbeat changed ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Not fear.

Not calm.

Awake.
