Chapter 8 - Complaints

Yue Ling had always been the type to accept things as they came. Once she realized she couldn't change her situation, she simply settled into it. She chatted idly with System 999 for a while longer, exchanging meaningless banter and half-serious complaints.

Eventually, drowsiness crept up on her. She yawned, curled up on the surprisingly soft animal-hide bedding, and quickly fell asleep.

Seeing that its host had entered rest mode, System 999 quietly went offline as well.

"Get up. It's time for breakfast."

A voice she recognized rang out, accompanied by the rich, mouthwatering scent of roasted meat drifting into the cave.

Lang Zuo stepped in from the cave entrance, his figure outlined by the pale morning light. In his hand, he carried a chunk of meat wrapped in large leaves.

Yue Ling pushed herself upright, still half-asleep. She glanced outside—daybreak had only just arrived. It was far too early.

She had suffered through a vivid nightmare the night before. In the dream, she failed to seduce her target and died on the spot—game over.

She'd been trapped in the Chaos World System 999 had mentioned, forced to endure countless lonely years, unable to reincarnate.

Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Yue Ling looked up at Lang Zuo approaching.

She reached out and accepted the roasted meat.

"Thank you."

In truth, this body was still extremely weak. Eating nothing but meat for long periods made digestion difficult and left her stomach aching.

Lang Zuo, however, found himself momentarily stunned.

The petite female before him was far more striking than he remembered.

She had long, jet-black hair that gleamed softly in the dim light. Her face was small and delicate, her features refined and exquisite. When her eyes blinked open and shut, they resembled the fluttering wings of butterfly beasts outside the cave.

Her skin was pale and luminous, like the moon hanging high in the night sky—so white and tender it was hard to look away.

She was beautiful. Even more so than Ana, the most attractive female in their tribe.

The only flaw was her size—too small, too thin. She looked severely undernourished.

Lang Zuo subtly glanced around the cave. The massive stone blocking the entrance hadn't moved. Aside from him, no one else could have shifted it.

So this beautiful little female… really was Yue Ling? That crazy female everyone avoided?

"You're Yue Ling?"

He asked carefully, testing her reaction.

Yue Ling unfolded the leaf-wrapped meat. It was slightly overcooked, the edges charred, but it still smelled good.

Hearing his question, she nodded without hesitation and took a bite.

A strong, gamey flavor spread across her tongue.

There was no salt. No seasoning. Just meat roasted until cooked—hard, dry, and tough.

Only marginally better than eating it raw.

Her face scrunched up instinctively.

The brothers already disliked taking care of her, and she had no strength to defend herself. She couldn't afford to be picky or provoke them.

Frowning, she tore off a small piece and chewed again and again, forcing herself to swallow despite the discomfort twisting in her stomach.

Watching her struggle, Lang Zuo felt a pang of guilt.

They had casually cut off a random piece of meat to roast, never considering that a female needed the tenderest cuts of prey.

This kind of rough meat was far too difficult for a female to digest.

Perhaps, deep down, they had never truly regarded Yue Ling as a female at all.

"If it's bad, then don't eat it."

Irritation surged through Lang Zuo. He suddenly snatched the meat from Yue Ling's hands and tossed it onto the ground.

Yue Ling froze.

She hadn't expected him to lose his temper so abruptly.

She'd even thought Lang Zuo was the gentler one between the two brothers.

Yes, the meat tasted awful—but she never said she wouldn't eat it. She had no idea what had set him off.

She hurriedly picked up the meat, brushing off the dirt.

"I didn't say I wouldn't eat it."

She needed to eat. She needed to live longer. She didn't want to die.

Seeing her small figure crouched on the ground, carefully retrieving the dirty meat, Lang Zuo felt a surge of unease.

When Yue Ling lifted the meat again, he grew even more agitated. He grabbed it from her once more.

"It's dirty. You can't eat that. I'll go roast another one."

With that, he turned and left the cave.

Yue Ling stared at his retreating back, confused.

Suddenly, she felt that Lang You—the blunt, straightforward one—might actually be easier to deal with.

The original Yue Ling had been a mad female living in the most remote corner of the wolf tribe.

This new cave wasn't far from her old one—less than a hundred meters away.

Scattered caves dotted the area, all seemingly abandoned. This part of the tribe had only one female beast now: her.

In the past, several families had lived here, but none could tolerate the crazy female. One by one, they all moved away.

Once Lang Zuo was out of sight, Yue Ling's thoughts began to stir.

[999, is there a way for me to directly locate my seduction target?]

She was worried the brothers would fear her running off again and lock her inside the cave. If that happened, she'd eventually be imprisoned to death.

[You need to see him in person to confirm. Host, you can take advantage of this moment and wander around the tribe. You might run into him by chance.]

Yue Ling silently complained.

What use was that? Couldn't the system lock on remotely or something?

[Host, I can hear your internal complaints.]

[Then hear them.]

She didn't bother denying it.
