Now that his Mage Tool was finally complete, he could do it.

'I can finally get answers.'

Part of the intent behind the mechanics of his mage tool was indeed to help him in his coming project regarding mage circles, while another was to test out his thoughts regarding the encyclopaedia and take advantage of it.

But neither of those were the biggest reasons behind the mechanics and purpose of his Mage Tool.

Independence.

The biggest motivation behind the design of his tool and its enchantments was independence, from Enoch, Ayah, and any future regressor he might meet in the future.

The truth was that he'd have to get to terms with the fact that he'd never get his memories back and thus would always be lagging behind the others.

Worse still, because of this gap in knowledge and the weird laws of the world stopping the regressors from directly telling him everything he needed to know, he'd always be in the dark.

Like his current situation, for example.
