Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Choosing a Path

Sakazuki looked at Kai and continued speaking:

— You know the role of the Marines. We protect ordinary people and destroy the evil of this world — pirates.

The world is divided into four seas: North Blue, South Blue, West Blue, and East Blue. These seas are considered the weakest.

Beyond them lies the Grand Line, which people call the graveyard of pirates.

And beyond that — the New World.

He paused briefly.

— In all these seas, there are cursed pirates who harm civilians. And it is the duty of the Marines to protect everyone.

Kai, you have a choice. With the power of a Logia, you could easily defeat pirates in the four seas.

Or… you can train with me. Endure hellish training.

And when you become truly strong, you will be able to fight pirates of the Grand Line.

Kai did not hesitate.

— Vice Admiral Sakazuki, — he said firmly. — I am ready to endure hellish training and become stronger, to protect people and destroy pirates.

Sakazuki nodded.

— Good. For now, return to your room and rest.

Tomorrow, your training begins. Be prepared.

I will not go easy on you just because you are blind.

— I'm ready, — Kai replied.

With those words, he headed back toward the medical wing.

Sakazuki watched him go, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

After giving his orders, Sakazuki had Momonga quickly contact Admiral Sengoku.

When Sengoku heard the request to allow Sakazuki to remain in North Blue for two more months, he agreed almost immediately — dealing with Garp alone was more than enough to give him a headache.

When Momonga delivered the approval, Sakazuki was clearly pleased.

The next day, Kai and Sakazuki stood on the base's training field.

— Kai, are you ready? — Sakazuki asked.

Kai nodded.

— Good. Then we begin.

Ten laps around the field.

One minute of rest.

Then thirty push-ups.

And finally — sword training.

Thus began Kai's training.

His path through hell.
