Chapter 1 - An Existence Even the Dead Fear.

BACKGROUND

Although time does not move uniformly throughout the planet, it is centered around the year 1850. In certain areas, technological advancements have reached levels similar to those of the early 1900s to 1930, while in others, industrial advancements have left technology centuries behind. Not every discovery from our earth till 1930 exist here; some technologies arrive too soon, while others never do. Progress is uneven, dispersed, and frequently solitary.

There are gaps throughout civilization. Many nations and areas do not communicate with one another, and some people are completely ignorant of the existence of other human communities. Knowledge spreads imperfectly, if at all; travel is slow, risky, and constrained. Because of this isolation, civilizations, ideologies, and technological advancements can develop separately, resulting in stark differences across adjacent regions. Religions have a deep root in this world history and in present.

There is magic, but it is subdued rather than overwhelming. Despite its strength, it is limited, uncommon, and challenging to use. Everyday life is not defined by magic, which mostly stays in the background and quietly influences events instead of creating spectacle. It is not the world's main focus at first, and its actual depth is only later revealed.

The planet has a chilly, depressing feel. Warmth itself seems to have diminished, as the sun is faint and never bright. Dark clouds hang low in the sky, chilly winds tear through streets and woodlands, and fog clings over land and water. Beneath this shadow are vast Tall green trees that are silent and dense, adding to the ongoing feeling of discomfort and loneliness.

Overall, the world feels old, heavy, and decaying, caught between forgotten pasts and uncertain progress. It is a place where knowledge is incomplete, power is hidden, and darkness is not sudden but ever-present.
