Kai's hands and feet were tied with a rope. He could hear the commotion outside as his mother was screaming. But it was no use. The carriage sped away from village heading towards the capital of Astraeon, Astraeus. Kai had given up hope. He was an undesirable, living illegally in the Moonveil forest. He knew he had no chance of getting out alive. But what about his mother? What would happen to her? Will she be burned alive like his biological parents? These thoughts raced in Kai's head. The curtains of the carriage were closed. It was pitch dark. He tried to sneak a peek outside but a soldier quickly stopped him. After a long time of uncomfortable silence one soldier spoke up.
" Do not worry peasant. Your life is not in danger. If you are deemed useful, we will let you live."
" Do not give him false hope Markoth. That's only if he's been blessed by the moon. If not then he will likely be executed." Another soldier chimed in.
"And you don't need to scare him like that either. Understandable killings we're made illegal 20 years ago. He will most likely be let go." A soldier with an eye patch said.
Their conversation made no sense to Kai. How could I be useful to the kingdom? What did they mean by blessed by the moon? Aren't only those of noble blood blessed by the Shiny objects in the sky? He was deep in thought then suddenly something slammed into the left side of the carriage.
" What was that!" A soldier screamed. A few soldiers went outside to see what happened then suddenly a blood curdling scream was heard. The remaining soldiers quickly went outside to investigate. More screams were herad. Kai got frightened and was looking around trying to find anything to cut down the ropes. But no use it was pitch black. The screams grew louder and louder. Kai was losing hope. The sounds of flesh being torn apart and and the screams of the soldiers made him numb. Amidst the chaos only one thought came to his mind.
I wish I was never born.
With that tears started to flow. Then he felt a strange feeling in his chest. It felt like his his heart was about to burst open. The pain was too great for him to bear. At least I won't get violently shredded to pieces, he taught . The pain kept on rising, the screams of the soldiers kept on growing louder and louder and... It stopped. His vision blurred and he lost consciousness.
The world was nothing but light. He felt weightless, formless. Seconds or hours might have passed but he couldn't tell. It felt like he was in heaven. Then all of a sudden he felt a soft pillow in his head. He started to feel his arms and legs. His vision was coming back and the paradise was disappearing. He slowly opened his eyes. An unfamiliar ceiling, he thought, looking up. He tried to get out of bed but he couldn't move his body. He was completely out of strength. As he was wondering how he survived someone entered the room. It was a woman the same age as him. She had golden brown hair and green eyes. She carried herself elegantly, dressed in an expensive looking gown.
" You're finally awake mister hero" She said mockingly. " My name is Luna Valcor. I'm delighted to finally make your acquaintance, mister hero."
