Chapter 41 - Just another day

"For a useless guy, you're quite useful sometimes," Mirajane commented.

Mirajane was leaning over Finn, who was sitting at one of the guild tables, while she took photos of herself with her new phone.

"This thing is a marvel. I'm sure that if I post these photos I'll become a model, or even better, if I post videos, I'll surely become a singer," Mirajane commented with a big smile.

(What a coincidence, so being a model has been a dream since she was a kid... I wonder why she only became a model and not a singer in the future?) Finn asked himself, thinking about the future Mirajane, who was a famous model as well.

"I heard you're leaving again soon, this time by order of the master," Mirajane commented again, giving him a side eye. (He's only been here a day and he's already leaving again. Who does he think he is, Gildarts?) Mirajane thought.

"It's just a simple mission. I have to deliver a phone to each of the other masters of the other guilds, and then deliver a letter to another person who lives quite far away," Finn replied. (I wonder what Minato and the master are talking about?... Well, whatever. Once I get there and deliver the message along with the phones, I won't need to deliver letters anymore.)

"That's your problem! If you keep doing stupid, meaningless missions, you'll never move forward and you'll never reach S-Class!" Mirajane replied severely. "You just spend your time doing easy missions that take too long; you'll never get stronger that way."

Finn rolled his eyes with disinterest, but Mirajane pulled his ear to make him pay attention.

"At this rate, you'll get left behind, and Erza and I will advance to S-Class in the blink of an eye. You'll be like those useless guys, Wakaba and Macao," Mirajane continued scolding him.

"Hey!" two indignant voices echoed from the other side of the guild.

Mirajane kept pulling his ear, then let go to give him a smack on the head and began to think.

"I know!" Mirajane continued before suggesting, "I'll go with you, and that way, just the two of us will do a separate mission together."

Mirajane jumped and landed on the table, squatting down to look at Finn face-to-face, showing him an arrogant and proud smile.

"I'll do you the favor of showing you how real missions are done," Mirajane assured, treating her offer as an act of mercy and help toward Finn.

Finn looked at her for a few seconds before focusing back on his plate of food.

"No," he responded.

"What do you mean 'no'?" Mirajane asked, indignant.

"You heard him!"

Erza's voice came from the next table. Erza stood up, putting her phone under her armor before walking toward Finn and Mirajane.

Finn sighed heavily, knowing what was about to come.

"You stay out of this... Ugly," Mirajane said crossly, grinding her teeth.

"Finn clearly doesn't want to do missions with you, you mannerless gorilla," Erza replied. "That's why I'll go with him instead of you. Our previous mission proves that we work very well together!" she said before fixing her hair and giving her a look of superiority.

"You think you're better than me, Cyclops?!" Mirajane stood up straight on the table, looking down at Erza.

Mirajane's hands began to emit a dark magic. Consequently, Erza's right hand slowly opened, and a white glow began to appear. The two were about to explode at any moment.

(I'll retreat now while there's still time...) Finn thought, but not before trying to grab his plate of food.

"Bring it on!" Mirajane exclaimed before stepping on Finn's food, her hands transforming into claws.

"NOOO!" Finn screamed, seeing his food crushed.

Erza wasted no time either, and the glow in her hand intensified before turning into a thick smoke that took the form of a sword just before the weapon materialized.

"I've had enough of you!" Erza shouted, swinging her sword and clashing against Mirajane's claws.

The blow deflected both of their attacks, forcing Finn to dodge Mirajane's claws.

"Watch what you're doing!" Finn exclaimed, evading Erza's sword.

Erza paid him no attention and swung her sword again, clashing it against Mirajane's long claws.

Finn watched the two exchange blows while he dodged all those deflected hits and slashes heading toward him right from his seat.

"Haha! You can't hurt me anymore!" Finn smiled happily, realizing that his training with Jiraiya and Shisui had worked.

Mirajane and Erza stopped for a second to catch their breath, but from their looks, Finn knew the fight was far from over.

(Now is my time to escape!) Finn thought as he rested his hands on the table to push himself off.

At the same time, a black sphere began to manifest in Mirajane's hand, and Erza's sword changed to a longer sword that instantly burst into flames.

(This escalated, I have to escape!) Finn thought, ready to push off, but a small pair of arms around his waist stopped him.

"You can't escape, Finn. It's too late... This is your destiny," Happy assured while looking at him with tearful eyes. "I'm going to miss you."

"Damn cat, when did you get here?! Let go of me!" Finn shouted, angry and scared, but it was already too late.

Before his eyes, Finn saw the flaming sword slice through the dark sphere created by Mirajane, and an explosion was instantly unleashed right in front of him.

"Damn it!" Finn shouted at the same time he extended his hand, and a pale blue bubble appeared in front of him. "Protego!"

The explosion clashed against the bubble, shattering it like glass and blowing Finn and Happy away from the table. On the other side, Erza and Mirajane were also thrown back, but they quickly recovered and rushed right back into fighting each other.

(That was way too close...) Finn thought, breathing heavily. He didn't expect it to work, but apparently, his compatibility with Grindelwald's soul was high enough to use wandless magic.

Finn looked at Happy, who was still clinging to his waist, and then grabbed him by the head.

"What was that strange bubble, Finn? It was fantastic!" Happy asked curiously.

Finn sighed before tossing him toward Natsu, who was fighting with Gray and Elfman.

(It's best if I leave now, I don't want any more trouble...) Finn thought, standing up, but before he could leave, everyone in the guild heard shouting.

The guild fell silent instantly; everyone who was fighting froze. The shouts intensified; they were filled with rage and disapproval.

"That's the master's voice..." Natsu commented, letting go of Gray's hair.

"And it's coming from his office," Lisanna continued, sitting next to Levy.

"This doesn't sound good at all..." Macao said seriously.

They had all heard the master angry before, as that was his daily state thanks to all the destruction they caused, but today was different. Everyone could tell that today Makarov was truly angry, in a way never seen before.

"Who was the idiot this time?" Wakaba asked before releasing a puff of smoke. "No, even more important. What the hell did they do?" he asked again.

(So it's today...) Kurama commented in Finn's head.

(Today? What happens today?) Finn asked quickly.

(Hmph, you have all these memories and you don't even use them... Just think for a moment, who is in the guild right now that isn't here in the future?) Kurama asked.

Before Finn could even think of the answer, the doors to the master's office flew open, and a very angry Ivan stormed out of the guild at a hurried pace.

The guild master followed him with a harsh expression on his face all the way to the guild entrance, where he waited patiently until Ivan disappeared from sight.

With a heavy sigh, Makarov turned around, his head lowered and his gaze lost. As he walked back toward his office, Makarov commented in a low voice.

"Ivan Dreyar has been expelled from the guild..."

The guild members widened their eyes in surprise and disbelief; they never expected Makarov to expel his own son.

Laxus, who was sitting at a somewhat distant table, was the most shocked of all, and without a single doubt, he followed his grandfather toward his office, demanding to know what he had done.
