Chapter 6 - FIRST TEST... PASSED

"I'm sorry that things have to end this way Miss Elise. We all thought you'd be the perfect maid." John said calmly opening the gate for her.

"What happened in there?" He asked. Elise wiped her tears gently.

"I... I asked him to be my boyfriend since he wouldn't accept me as a maid." John's eyes went wide for a few seconds before returning to their normal state.

This explains why his master looked that way. He suddenly laughed and Elise wondered what was so funny.

She must have really shocked his master. No one in this town or city has been able to ask Lucien Voss out. Not even the devil himself. Many called him gay.

A wealthy man who has a clean name relating to sexual and relationship scandals. What more can people say?

But they all had no proof he was gay. No man has been able to come out to confess to anything even after offering ransoms to pay.

"Mr John I have nowhere else to stay," Elise said calmly.

"I'll speak to my boss. Hopefully, he lets you stay after a while." Elise nodded at his words having hope that things would turn out great.

But seconds turned into minutes and minutes into days and Lucien Voss was yet to accept her back in. John has pleaded with his boss but he still refuses to come back.

"Boss it's been two days and she's still out there," John said on the second day.

"She'll go by tomorrow. No one can survive in this cold. She'll eventually go back home." John hesitated a little at his master's words.

"I don't think so sir. She's very determined." John said calmly but Lucien said nothing.

On the third night, there was heavy outpour and lightning and when morning came, David went ahead to check on Elise, to find her lying on the floor.

This woman really was so stubborn. What he didn't understand was why she would pick the devil's lair for her beautiful life.

"Miss Elise," John called but no response came.

"Miss Elise," John called again but no response came.

"Miss." He tapped her feet, but no response came. Then he immediately picked her from the floor and into the mansion. He placed her on the couch and went ahead to get his master.

"Master Lucien, we need a doctor," John said hastily.

"Why do we need that?" Came Lucien's calm voice.

"It's Miss Elise. She's not talking sir, after being hit by the rain." John said.

"She was in the rain?" John nodded at his master's words and Lucien narrowed his eyes. This girl was scared of death, yet had decided to die in the rain?

Who does that?

Lucien called his doctor before following John to the woman who had turned his life into a living hell after her arrival.

He saw her lying on his couch. Her skin was pale, almost turning blue. Lucien pressed his fingers on her wrist. "Her pulse is weak. The doctor will be here any moment now to check her." He said calmly before walking away.

In no time the doctor arrived and Elise was checked. He administered a few drugs and placed her on a drip.

"You should keep her as warm as possible. She's been in the cold a lot today. It's a miracle she's still alive." John nodded at his words.

"I'll be back tomorrow to check how she's doing." John nodded at his words and escorted the doctor out.

All through the night, Elise didn't wake up one bit. And when morning arrived, she finally opened her eyes.

"You're awake." She heard John's voice and she smiled.

"It's good to see you're fine Miss Elise." John smiled back.

"For someone who values her life, you sure know how to lose it very well," Lucien said, his golden eyes on her, and Elise froze. A certain pull from within her stomach dripped lower and that dull ache started again.

"I... I..." She tried to explain, but no words left her lips.

Lucien started walking out of the room, "Master Lucien." Elise called gently and he turned to look at her.

"Does this mean I pass?" Lucien was silent for a while. He's never seen anyone willing to kill herself just to be his girlfriend.

"As a maid. To be my girlfriend, you have to do more to impress me." Elise nodded.

"I'll do anything you ask." She said with determination.

"Yes, you will. But that'll be after you take your drugs." John cut in, pushing the tray of soup he had prepared for her and Elise smiled.

In this home, she found the comfort she's never found, which is why it was hard for her to leave.

By the time evening came, Elise was strong again, already up to make her new master the coffee he had asked for.

"What are you doing in here?" John asked the moment he saw her walk into the kitchen.

"I told you I was going to handle the coffee making tonight. You should focus more on recovering so that you work effectively." Elise nodded at his words.

"It's okay Mr John. Master Lucien asked me to bring it myself. I don't want him to fire me again. It's just coffee, I'll go back to resting once he's done." Elise said calmly.

"Are you sure?" John asked to see her nod gently.

"Alright. Hurry and give it to him then." Elise nodded. She took the tray from his hands and hurried away with it.

When she reached the dining room, she walked over to where Lucien was seated and placed the cup of coffee gently on the table.

"Here you go master Lucien," Elise said with a smile even though her insides felt like they were on fire. She couldn't dwell on the pain. If she did, she would miss out on everything.

Lucien picked up the cup of coffee. He took a sip and spat it out.

"You didn't make this did you?" He asked for her to shake her head. The dull ache returned at his stare.

She had no idea he would be able to differentiate her coffee from John's.

"Make a new one. You have less than two minutes" Lucien pushed the cup forward and her eyes turned wide. Elise hurried into the kitchen to make the coffee and hurried back into the dining room with it.

"Here you go master." She heaved for breath, her chest felt like it had stopped working and she felt like fainting in an instant.

Lucien picked up the cup and took a sip from it. Then he placed it back on the table.

"I'm not just anyone, I'm Lucien Voss, a beast in human form. I don't think an innocent girl like yourself would want anything to do with a beast." Lucien said and Elise taken aback, took a moment to understand everything he said.

Was he accepting her request?

"That's not a problem sir. And don't think I'm here for your money even though I need it, I just want you to be my boyfriend." She said.

Lucien frowned at her words. He's the one always in control, how dare this mere maid come to him like this?

"Being with me means pain. That's all I can give you. Are you still willing to be with a man like me?" She nodded.

"I do not mind sir," Elisa said calmly.

"You can leave," Lucien said and she nodded. He hadn't given her any answer yet. Elise noted. Maybe he wanted to think about it first.

But she hoped she'd get lucky because as of last week, it seems she's in her final months to die. She has an appointment with the doctor the day after tomorrow and she hoped it would all be a lie and some miracle had happened.

When Elise stepped out of the room, she was greeted by John.

"We'd be going to the tailor's shop tomorrow to get your maid uniform. Get ready." Elise nodded with a smile. She was extremely happy because Lucien had finally accepted her.

When morning arrived, Elise had followed John over to the tailor's shop.

They arrived at a very broad shop, a little far from the mansion, John stepped out of the car first leading Elise who was now in another cloth belonging to her master Lucien.

When they stepped in, they were greeted by a younger girl.

"Hello, Sir John. Another maid or a wife this time?" The girl asked staring at Elise.

"Another maid," John said politely. "Where is your mistress?"

"Oh she'll be out in a jiffy, she went in to change." She said.

"Please come with me." The girl held Elise by the hand and took her away.

While Elise took her measurement, she saw John speak to the woman who seemed to be the head of the place. Both people stared at her and then back to their conversation.

While she stared at them, she heard the doorbell of the store ring, and in came Eloise. Her immediate Elder sister.

Elise could not run because she had already been found.
