Chapter 36 - Bond Stability: Uncertain

Before I could even process the words "We have been marked," Kaelen moved.

His hands were a blur. He yanked my hood forward, completely shadowing my face and hiding every strand of my distinctive silver hair. In the same motion, he pushed me down.

"Kael—"

"Stay down, My Lady," he hissed, his voice a razor-sharp whisper.

He forced me onto my knees on the rough roof tiles, facing away from the street, and grabbed my wrists, pulling them behind my back. To anyone looking up, it looked exactly like a knight subduing a criminal.

Thud. Thud. Clank.

Below us, heavy boots pounded against the cobblestones. The Bladewardens rushed the merchant store, surrounding the building with weapons drawn.

"Up there!" one shouted, pointing a spear. "Who goes there?!"

Kaelen stood up slowly. He released one hand from my "restraint" just long enough to pull back his own hood, revealing his face to the moonlight and the soldiers below.
