Chapter 54 - Toward New Light

Thalorion finally releases Lucian's hand. The suffocating clash of magical auras instantly vanishes, leaving the courtyard in a tense, heavy silence.

He turns his ancient, piercing gaze directly toward me. In the blink of an eye, the terrifying, calculating expression of a High Sovereign melts away.

He gives me a smile so breathtakingly genuine, so full of warmth and paternal pride, that anyone watching would think he absolutely adores his daughter.

"And I see, Lady Cyrina, you have adapted to your new environment."

Liar. I don't fall for it for a single second. I know exactly what that pathetic 17% Bond Stability means. To him, I am nothing but a disposable political thread.

I step just a fraction closer to Lucian's side, letting the heavy white silk of my gown brush against his coat. I keep my chin raised, refusing to bow my head as I look straight into the High Sovereign's lying eyes.

"I do... Your Sovereignty."
