The rooftop balcony was quiet. The wind whispered secrets across the stone. The city below was unaware of the storm brewing above.
Kieran leaned against the railing. Alara stood beside him. They didnʼt speak.
"I used to think love was a lie,ˮ she said.
"And now?ˮ
"Now I think itʼs a weapon.ˮ He turned to her. She stepped close.
"You want to kiss me,ˮ she said.
"Yes.ˮ
"Then do it.ˮ He did.
It was war.
And when they broke apart, she held a knife to his side.
"I could kill you.ˮ
