Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: I Died? Oh, I'm Alive Again

"Go! There's only one of him and five hundred of us! The advantage is ours! Wear him down!"

"For the Gods! For the Warmaster!"

The rebel leader in the tank kept shouting, urging his men to swarm Datch.

"Come on, then! For the Great Emperor!"

Datch charged, darting through the crowd with impossible speed.

Bodies fell wherever he went.

A group of cultists with bombs strapped to them charged for a suicide attack.

Datch stomped the ground.

A shockwave sent the cultists flying.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The bombs detonated, flesh and blood spraying everywhere.

"Fire! Blow that Corpse Emperor lackey to hell!"

The rebels opened up with all their heavy weapons: Leman Russ Tanks, lascannons, multi-meltas—many still bearing the Imperial Aquila.

They'd taken the Imperials' abandoned equipment and turned it on their former comrades.

Artillery rained down on Datch, tossing him around, his health plummeting.

Finally, the Leman Russ tank fired a shell that vaporized half of Datch's body.

Creed watched despairingly. He'd hoped this nameless Emperor's Angel could turn the tide.

But even he had fallen to the rebels' firepower.

"Hahaha! The Corpse Emperor's lackey is dead!"

The rebel leader slapped the tank hull in triumph.

"This is what loyalty gets you! You fools—your end is—eh? How is he still alive!?"

A flash of light, and Datch walked out, unharmed.

The rebels—all dumbfounded.

What the hell?! Wasn't he just killed? How did he come back?

He's cheating! Gods, someone is cheating!

The corpse was gone, erased by some power.

"Good thing I'm on Easy Mode, or I'd have to restart."

Datch considered himself a casual player—bad reflexes, always played on Easy.

On Easy, you resurrect immediately. Even bad players could finish the game.

I'll try a harder difficulty next time. For now, just mow down enemies and finish the game in a month.

In VR, you could adjust time dilation.

Datch set his ratio to 3660:1, so he could finish the game in a month—the limit of his gaming pod's life support.

Afterward, it'll feel like a dream.

"Fire! Keep firing! Blast him to death!"

The rebel leader screamed, terrified.

Even daemons needed time to resurrect. Was this guy a Living Saint?

Datch sprinted, leaped onto the Leman Russ, cut down the Traitors, yanked the leader out, and crushed his head.

He tossed a grenade into the tank.

Boom!

The tank filled with black smoke and stopped moving.

Everyone inside was dead.

The fluidity of these moves—so cool. This game deserves an 82 out of 100. The other 18 points are 666!

With the rebel leader dead, the remaining heavy firepoints were easily destroyed.

The Traitors lost their will to fight and ran.

"Hey! Running already? I was just getting started!"

Datch chased them, but the rest escaped.

Ugh, the AI keeps running. Just stand still and let me clear you!

Just then, the system screen appeared:

[Mission Complete: Destroy enemy heavy fire units 10/10]

*[Rewards: 500 EXP, Reputation +10, Doom Slayer's Super Shotgun 1]

Datch equipped the shotgun.

It was rugged, heavy, and real in his hands—a green-tier "Exquisite" weapon with a blessing:

Mutilation: Damage to torsos +50%, high chance of limb dismemberment.

"Nice. My first green gear. Next goal: full green set!"

He holstered his Bolter and returned to Creed, who stared in disbelief.

He'd seen Datch blown apart, only to return a moment later.

But he remembered Living Saint Celestine—she could resurrect, too.

"Thank you for your assistance, my lord," Creed said gratefully. "Praise the Emperor for sending you..."

"Skip, skip. Next mission?" Datch interrupted.

Creed: (⊙o⊙)...

This Emperor's Angel was... impatient.

Still, Creed replied,

"I hope you'll accompany us to the evacuation point."

[Mission: Evacuation]

[Protect Creed, troops, and civilians to the evacuation point.]

*[Reward: 600 EXP, 600 Credits, Reputation +20, Eviscerator's Oath Chainsword 1]

"Let's go. Move it."

Creed ordered the column forward.

He sent men to grant the Emperor's Peace to captured soldiers and tried to absorb stragglers on the way.

But the evacuation was not safe.

Chaos bombarded every transport vehicle.

Daemon-possessed cultists struck whenever they could.

"Kill! Blood! Blood!"

Four World Eaters, worshipers of Khorne, used jump packs to leap over defenses and slaughtered innocents.

Datch charged, super shotgun ready.

A World Eater spotted him, charging with a chainaxe.

Bang!

Under the boomstick, all are equal—even Chaos Space Marines.

One shot, and the World Eater was a bloody mess.

Efficient.
