Sitting in the lounge area, Matthew watched for a while and saw Keira Knightley approaching. She held a bottle of water and sat down next to him.
"I just saw Gore Verbinski."
Although she only came twice a week, most actors were outgoing, so Keira Knightley was quite familiar with Matthew. "He came with Jerry Bruckheimer."
Matthew had never met Gore Verbinski, so he immediately looked around curiously and asked, "Where is he?"
Keira Knightley unscrewed her mineral water, took a small sip, and said, "They just left when I came over." She asked Matthew, "is this director very mysterious?"
"Not mysterious," Matthew explained simply. "I heard my agent say he's currently filming a horror movie called *The Ring*."
"I've heard of that movie." Keira Knightley was probably sweating, fanning herself with one hand. "It stars the actress David Lynch used in *Mulholland Drive*, I think her name is Naomi Watts."
She suddenly showed a bit of a fangirl crush. "When can I be cast in a David Lynch film?"
"Keira..." Matthew awkwardly interrupted Keira Knightley's fantasy and asked, "Who is David Lynch?"
"You..." Keira Knightley's eyes widened, and she bit her lip. "You don't know David Lynch?"
Matthew spread his hands. "There are so many directors in Hollywood; I can't possibly know all of them."
Keira Knightley seemed at a loss for words. After a long while, she said, "You live on another planet."
"is he very famous?" Matthew found it strange. "is he more famous than Michael Bay?"
"Michael Bay?" Keira Knightley covered her unique square face with both hands, seemingly defeated by Matthew. "You're comparing Michael Bay to David Lynch? This is the worst I've ever heard David Lynch slandered."
Matthew shook his head. "You've said so much, and I still don't know who David Lynch is."
Keira Knightley was not yet eighteen, and hearing her favorite director, who possessed great artistic and literary sensibilities, being so disregarded, she became a little impatient. "Forget it, I'm not talking to you anymore."
She sat on her seat, huffing and drinking water.
Matthew didn't mind. As a mature man, why would he quibble over such things with a seventeen-year-old girl? He continued to watch Robert Anderson drill those oddly-faced pirates.
After watching for a while, he noticed Johnny Depp had returned. For some reason, he had changed into Jack Sparrow's pirate costume. Although his hair wasn't done and he had no makeup, with that pirate hat on his head, Captain Jack Sparrow from Matthew's memory was back.
Matthew wasn't too surprised; Johnny Depp was eccentric, and anything he did seemed normal.
Johnny Depp didn't come over but found an empty spot, where he waddled and swayed back and forth, seemingly trying to find the feeling of the effeminate captain.
Matthew vaguely remembered seeing a saying on a smartphone once: actors must be a bit mad to truly live their roles. He himself was far from achieving that state, but Johnny Depp seemed to have a touch of it.
"Hey, Matthew."
Keira Knightley, who had been sulking next to him, also noticed Johnny Depp. She instantly forgot about their previous disagreement and asked curiously, "Do you know what happened between Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder back then?"
Matthew shrugged. "How would I know about something like that?"
"What a shame, what a shame..." Keira Knightley was still young and particularly gossipy. "Why did they break up? I read the reports back then, and I felt like I couldn't believe in love anymore."
Hearing this, Matthew couldn't help but think of Britney. In the past month, they had exchanged one text message. Britney's concert tour had started again, and it was impossible for them to go back to how things were.To say that he was not hurt would definitely be a lie because despite all the temptations around him , he endured for the sake of his love lasting for longs time. But, After the breakup he thought rationally and decided never to give anyone chance to hurt him again and also now he'll enjoy being single to the fullest.
Keira Knightley continued to gossip. "The most regrettable thing was Winona Ryder. It's said that after breaking up with Depp..." She turned to Matthew and, seeing him lost in thought, waved her hand in front of him, saying discontentedly, "Hey, I'm talking to you!"
Matthew immediately snapped back. "I've been listening, Keira." He asked, "Why was Winona Ryder so regrettable?"
The Winona Ryder in his impression was not a pure white lotus. Then again, trying to find a white lotus in Hollywood was like waiting for money to fall from the sky outside a studio.
"She was deeply hurt by love, but she was enthusiastic about bringing others together." Keira Knightley continued to gossip. "Do you know Christian Bale?"
Matthew nodded. "I've heard of him."
Keira Knightley was like a gossip machine. "She was the one who introduced Christian Bale to his wife, Sibi Blazic."
Hearing the Batman gossip, Matthew became a little interested. "Really?"
"Of course!" Keira Knightley's enthusiasm grew when she saw Matthew's response, and she continued to gossip. "Sibi Blazic was originally Winona Ryder's personal assistant. When Winona Ryder was working with Christian Bale, Winona introduced her to Bale."
"So that's how it was!" Matthew gave Keira Knightley a thumbs-up. "Keira, you're really well-informed!"
This reminded him of James McAvoy, who was also a very well-informed person. However, Keira Knightley's distinction was clear: she focused on gossip.
Keira Knightley was quite pleased with herself. "Of course!" She then added, "It's a shame about Winona Ryder; she was actually sued for shoplifting."
"What?" Matthew turned to Keira Knightley. "Winona Ryder stole something?"
"You didn't know?" Keira Knightley confirmed Matthew's ignorance and said, "Last year, Winona Ryder was arrested for shoplifting. At the Saks Fifth Avenue department store in Beverly Hills, she removed security tags from clothes and accessories worth over four thousand dollars, put them in her bag, and was caught on surveillance cameras. She was ultimately sentenced to three years' probation, sixty days of community service, and a ten-thousand-dollar fine."
She asked, "The media reported all of this; didn't you pay attention?"
"No." Matthew estimated that he was busy filming at the time and hadn't paid attention to the news.
When Winona Ryder's shoplifting news broke, did the non-disclosure agreement they signed automatically become invalid? He thought about it, unable to be sure, but the related news had already appeared, so what he had seen back then had lost its value.
Keira Knightley gossiped about some other things, then watched Johnny Depp's wobbly walk for a while, growing curious.
She asked Matthew, "Why does this pirate walk so wobbly and sway so much?"
Matthew didn't even think, giving a standard answer, "The script just set the character that way."
Keira Knightley instantly felt like Matthew was going to defeat her. Biting her lip, she asked, "Why would they set it that way?"
"Maybe they want to show he's drunk..." How would Matthew know what the screenwriters and Jerry Bruckheimer were thinking? He spoke off the cuff, "It's also possible that pirates get seasick on land, like to play tricks, feign weakness to ambush, or have a quirky and eccentric personality."
Then again, this is a captain! If a captain walked normally, not to mention a significant loss of charm, he, having seen the finished film, couldn't accept it!
"Pirates get seasick on land?" Keira Knightley was completely defeated by Matthew. She felt as if the person opposite her had come from the moon, and his way of speaking and thinking was on a completely different dimension from ordinary people.
"Seriously, I've thought about it seriously!" Matthew didn't seem to be joking, and he had also considered why the crew would set Captain Jack Sparrow this way. "A pirate, who spends years at sea, could possibly get seasick on land."
Keira Knightley pouted, seemingly disagreeing with Matthew's point of view.
Matthew looked towards Johnny Depp, who was still trying to find his groove, and continued, "Don't you think this has a kind of dandyish charm? A natural decadent aura that makes people want to sway along."
Keira Knightley watched seriously for a while and said, "He's impossibly handsome."
"So..." Matthew, like a master of acting, said, "This external form expresses the character's traits: flirtatious, feminine, effeminate, androgynous, to reduce the pirate captain's murderous and menacing aura and gain the affection of children, as this is a Disney movie."
He thought for a moment and added, "Additionally, it can appeal to female audiences. What do women want most? Understanding, sympathy, empathy."
Keira Knightley nodded, admitting, "You have a point."
"Have you read the entire script?" Matthew knew some actors only read their own character's script.
"I have," Keira Knightley said.
Matthew was completely serious this time, and this was his analysis based on the script. "This allows Jack Sparrow to always maintain a 'seemingly not in the current situation' sense of mystique. As a pirate captain, Jack is not actually a person but a conceptual, ghostly, wandering state of existence. He always seems to be spaced out, as if the current situation has nothing to do with him. He is always erratic, making it impossible for people to guess what he's thinking or what unusual action he'll take next. When his subordinates come to view his eccentricities as normal, they unconsciously follow him blindly."
Hearing this, Keira Knightley couldn't help but put aside her prejudice against the 'moon man' and solemnly scrutinized Matthew. "I didn't expect you to have such insights."
"It's nothing..."
Matthew stood up, ready to go to training. He only had so much knowledge, and if Keira Knightley asked more questions, he would reveal his lack of expertise.
Keira Knightley watched Matthew pick up his cutlass and enter the training ground, muttering, "Strange guy."
This Matthew Horner gave her a feeling that was sometimes even stranger than Johnny Depp.
