Chapter 36 - Princess and the Ghost

After using the same method to lure out nearly 40 Skeleton Mages in more than ten batches, the haunted house became completely empty.

A rotten curtain, almost falling apart, hung in the doorway leading to the inner room, and a clear female singing voice could faintly be heard from within.

Unfortunately, I don't understand sopranos; instead, I thought it sounded like a ghost's wail... Another shiver ran down my spine.

I thought that playing this game hadn't given me any other benefits, but it had certainly made me braver.

In the future, when watching horror movies with everyone, I wouldn't have to be scared and hug Xin Yu.

I used my longsword to push aside the curtain, only to discover that there were stairs leading upstairs.

Two milky-white, female-shaped Night Specters were pacing on the stairs.

I immediately lured one over; these level 26 monsters weren't any harder to defeat than Skeleton Mages, it was just their agonizing screams that sent chills down my spine.

I immediately opened my communicator and said to Xin Yu, "Don't talk, just listen to the sound from my side!"

Xin Yu, as expected, didn't speak and obediently listened to the sounds from my end, while I immediately turned the microphone volume to maximum and focused on tormenting the poor Night Specter.

"How about it, Xin Yu, isn't it intense over here?"

Xin Yu was stunned for a while before angrily saying, "Lin Fan, what the hell are you doing?!"

I was about to laugh, but then Xin Yu's next sentence left me speechless.

"I almost died of jealousy; that woman's * * voice is really exciting and intense..."

...Speechlessly, I turned off the communicator.

After finishing off this monster, I finally had to face Princess Misha, who had been tormented by the plague for three years.

I just didn't know if she was still alive in such an environment.

I tiptoed up the stairs, cautiously poking my head over the railing to see how the princess upstairs was doing, only to be so scared that I rolled straight back down the stairs!

What was upstairs was no princess; it was a pure white female ghost!

Her body beneath the white gauze dress had become transparent, and her face was covered in horrifying sores.

What terrified me most was that she had no feet!

Her entire body floated in mid-air, and when she turned to look at me, I almost lost control of myself, because she truly only had one eye; the other had already rotted away, leaving only a bloodshot thread connecting a foul-smelling eyeball hanging in her eye socket.

System message: You lost 232 HP due to a violent collision!

Damn it! Before even starting, I lost over two hundred points of health.

Some people kill with beauty; this female ghost, on the other hand, almost instantly killed me with her terrifying appearance!

Trembling, I once again stood before the female ghost, though I dared not look at her face.

"Stranger, what are you doing here? Aren't you afraid of disturbing my peaceful dream?" The female ghost's voice was just as shrill and bone-chilling.

"I just want to rescue Princess Misha." I delivered my lines.

The female ghost sneered, "Has the King finally sent someone to retrieve the princess? Does he still remember his daughter?"

I was stunned, my expression a bit awkward: "I wasn't sent by the King. Where is the princess? I need to take her back!"

"Want to take her back? If you weren't sent by the King, then who assigned you?"

"It was Healer Lance."

"Lance... teacher?" The female ghost's voice trembled slightly, but then it turned cold: "If you want to take the princess back, you'll have to get past me first!"

"Damn it, after all that, it still comes down to fighting!" I charged forward with my sword raised.

System message: You are affected by the plague; HP recovery rate reduced by 50%!

System message: You are affected by the female ghost's wail; movement speed reduced by 50%!

System message: You are affected by intimidation; attack speed reduced by 50%!

System message: You are affected by the female ghost's resentment; item usage effectiveness reduced by 50%!

...Damn, four lines of red system messages broke my heart, especially the last one; the loss of healing means losing real money!

Fortunately, almost everything was reduced except for attack power, which made me feel a little better.

An Ice Seal Slash froze the female ghost in place, followed by a Heavy Strike that directly removed 230 points of her HP.

A Combo was unleashed, and another 200-plus points of HP vanished.

The female ghost's attacks were equally unpleasant for me; 80 damage each time was excruciating.

Moreover, even my medium potion, which normally restored 500 HP, could only restore 250 HP.

One medium potion could only withstand three of the female ghost's attacks.

The cooldown for drinking potions was 10 seconds, and my movement speed was agonizingly slow at this point.

I was in a dilemma, unable to retreat; I could only rely on constantly drinking potions to fight the female ghost.

The potion consumption rate was astonishingly high; when the female ghost's HP was less than 1/3, I had already used 8 out of my 10 potions.

It looked like I wouldn't be able to defeat this female ghost successfully!

The battle was fierce, back and forth, sword light flashing continuously!

No, I've drunk the last two potions, but the female ghost still has a sliver of HP left, and my HP bar is only half full.

No, even though her HP seems to be just a sliver, I'm not doing well either; under the opponent's relentless attacks, my HP will soon be empty!

It's over! Both sides' HP are at rock bottom; who will emerge victorious?!

Wait, three minutes are up, uh, my new skill has recovered!!

"Ice Seal Slash" flew out!

The female ghost was instantly frozen, stunned for three seconds!!

Heavy Strike, Combo!!

"Woo~!"

With a mournful cry, the female ghost finally fell, but she didn't disappear.

Two pieces of equipment and a book dropped to the ground, and the female ghost looked at me, barely clinging to life.

I quickly picked up the equipment and the book, tossing them into my bag, then warily watched the female ghost, completely forgetting to sit down and recover my HP.

"Are you truly sent by Teacher Lance to retrieve the princess?" The female ghost panted continuously, her voice very weak.

"Yes, he has found the formula to cure the princess's plague."

"What, Teacher found the formula to cure my illness?" The female ghost looked very surprised.

I was equally surprised: "You are Princess Misha?"

The female ghost's voice carried sadness: "Ever since I came here, the plague has tormented me. Later, several Undead Mages came, and they extracted my soul, turning me into a lonely specter..."

"So, Princess, are you not already dead?" I was greatly shocked; if that were the case, would my quest also be ruined?

"I am not dead, it's just that my soul has left my body..."

Eerie! Soul out of body!!
