Chapter 6 - The Dark Grin and The Blue-Eyed

Lavenia's POV

"Come on, I'll walk you home," Damien said, pulling my wrist. However, I quickly pushed him away and sat back down, facing the food I had ordered.

I occasionally stole glances at the man who was doing the same thing from his table. How could I talk to him?

"Mr. Shaw, are we going to postpone our conversation about this business?" asked the man, approaching us.

"Ah, yes. Sorry, I have a small problem to solve with my fiancée," he replied, which startled me, and made me hid my face.

"Fiancée?" He raised his eyebrows and stared intently at me. "I just found out that... you're engaged."

"Yes, she's a spoiled girl. So I have to take care of a lot of things," he replied with a small laugh. He then turned to me. "Lavenia, go home by taxi because I can't take you. I have important business and you don't need to say anything strange to your father."

I just rolled my eyes, then took my car keys out of my bag. "Thanks for the advice, Mr. Damien Shaw. But I already have my car and don't need you to drive me."

I glanced at the man with the dark grin. He pulled the corners of his lips back again. It was subtle, almost imperceptible. However, I could see that smirk as if I knew him very well.

Without permission, I got up, headed for the restroom, and didn't realize someone was following me.

"You don't need to follow me like a possessive fiancé, Damien. Don't think that by charming my father, you can make me stay. You're a cheater, so it will always be that way," I scolded, then turned around and saw that it wasn't Damien who was there, but the man with the dark grin.

He locked the restroom door, pinned me against the sink, then lifted me up and sat me there.

"You're engaged, huh?" he commented, making it difficult for me to swallow. His face was so close, the scent emanating from his body felt familiar and made me want to stay close like this forever.

Like hunger and longing.

He grabbed my waist as I moved further back. Trapping me so I couldn't move.

"Tell me, why do you want me and the others to meet your father if you're already engaged?" he asked. "Running away isn't the answer, little wolf. You have to face your problems. If you're no longer interested in Damien, tell him."

I sighed heavily. "It's not that simple. He cheated on me with my friend, and my father still stands by him. My father will only allow me to end the engagement if I find a replacement candidate who is far better than him. And I think... those are you guys."

He grinned again, as if mocking my words. He then poked the tip of my nose before speaking again, "So when are you going to call us back, hm? Did you change your mind after that night?"

That night? What night?

"No," I replied breathlessly as this man's fingers now crept up my waist, down to my hips, then up my thighs. "I... will let you know when the time comes."

"All right." He removed his hand from me, reached into his jacket pocket, and took out a piece of paper which he handed to me. "This is my business card. Don't hesitate to contact me whenever you need to."

He walked away, looked at me one more time before turning and leaving, while I stared at the business card in my hand with a name written on it.

Rayden Kim – SunRay Company

An uneventful dinner. Last week, I spent the evening with four charming men, and tonight, Dad punished me, confiscating my car keys and ordering the guards to keep watch outside my room, both at the door and the window.

Did he think I would jump from such a high balcony?

I just played with the food on my plate. Dad glanced at me repeatedly before saying, "Don't you like it? Isn't that your favorite food?"

Yes, it would be my favorite if Damien weren't sitting in front of me right now. He was really ruining the mood. I wished he didn't exist because Dad now treated him like a son.

"Maybe she eats too much sugar. I ran into her at a cafe this afternoon and she only had a cake," said Damien, to which I responded with a cynical glance.

I felt nauseous looking at his face. Nauseous... yes, that's right. I felt like my stomach was being violently churned. It felt like something was about to spill out, so I immediately got up, ran to the bathroom, and sure enough, everything I had eaten that day came right back up.

Everything.

I stepped out of the bathroom weakly. Dad got up and approached me with a worried look on his face, then placed the back of his hand on my forehead.

"That's what happens when you don't eat properly. Come on, let's go to the hospital now," he said, which stunned me.

"Why not call Dr. Avery? Isn't she usually the one who treats me?"

"All the doctors are on duty outside the pack. They won't be back until midnight. Do you want to wait that long?" he replied firmly. "Get ready. I'll wait in the car."

I hurried after Dad. One thing I couldn't believe was how much Dad trusted that cheating man named Damien, even to the point that he had to come with us to the hospital.

I got into the back seat and sat next to Dad, which made Damien turn his head in confusion. However, he didn't dare to say anything because Dad didn't say much either. He immediately drove off and we arrived at a magnificent building with "North Pack Hospital" written on it.

I had no suspicion at all about what would happen to me. Maybe Damien was right, I had consumed too many sweets and my body was finally protesting.

I lay on a bed, waiting for the doctor to come, and a woman in a navy blue uniform approached me.

"Are you sexually active?" she asked first, which made me frown.

"Do I have to answer that?"

"Yes, because we are checking the most important parts that cannot be overlooked. The test results show that everything is fine. There are no stomach problems or anything else. Do you feel dizzy?"

"Yes, a little lightheaded."

"Sexually active?"

"Uh, no."

"Have you had sex in the past week?"

"Wait! Do you have to ask all that? I've never had sex with anyone. Even if it happened..." I fell silent, and so did the doctor. "I... I don't remember," I replied, and the doctor just nodded.

"All right then. I'll take a blood sample so the results will be more accurate. I'll be back soon."

She left and my heart grew more anxious. Had I forgotten something, so that when I thought about the doctor's question, I suddenly felt uneasy?

Did I... sleep with someone? Or...

"Good evening, Miss Howls, I'm here to read the lab results of your blood sample and..." The man stopped mid-sentence, looking at me with surprise, but then he seemed to sigh with relief. "You?"

"You? What are you doing here?" I asked. The man was the cold one with blue eyes. What was he doing here? Was he one of the doctors?

He laughed awkwardly. "I work here." He then looked around. "Where is your family?"

Not long after, Dad rushed into the room and looked at the doctor who was about to speak. "What happened to my daughter, Doctor Lane?"

Doctor Lane? Dad knew him?

The blue-eyed man took a piece of paper out of an envelope and looked at the lines written on it. His brow immediately furrowed.

"Is your daughter married, Alpha Albert?"

"She's engaged, but not married."

He nodded. "Sexually active?" he asked, just like the female doctor had asked earlier, but this time, Dr. Lane seemed urge.

My dad laughed. "She... has never done it with anyone, not even her fiancé, I think. What's going on? Is it serious?"

Dr. Lane seemed to laugh in relief, then raised her head and said something I never expected and found hard to believe.

"She's pregnant, Alpha Albert. Congratulations. Your job now is to find out who the father of the baby is—if it's not her fiancé who slept with her, then it must be someone else."

What? I'm pregnant? This can't be.
