Chapter 13 - Desire Is Bound To Every Being

A woman wearing a shaggy cloak was roaming about a lonely forest. From its contents, she plucked all kinds of fruits and berries. Most of which were spoiled, but she found a cherry tree that was just ripe.

She pulled her hood back just slightly, only enough for a strand of red hair to fall out. There was a killing intent that washed over her, but she was indifferent to it.

In fact, she didn't feel any emotions at all. That is because this woman was Saber.

"If only Saber-Cry Abyrion-Iscaria Soul-Trapped-Blood was able to obtain humanity. For I would be able to go about my days like this."

Her expression remained emotionless, even as she ate from the contents of the tree. Eventually, she craved to see more of this world, plucking what little cherries were left before going along her way.

Her rainbow-colored eyes traced as far and wide as they could see. It was as if it were her first time seeing sunlight in five thousand years. If you could call the blinding white halos sunlight, that is.

"I wonder what the sun would feel like."

She outstretched her hand towards the halos, but not a single ounce of heat hit her skin. Saber was not satisfied with this; she could only imagine the tingle of the sun.

Although Saber was emotionless, desire was the one emotion she was not oblivious to. She could see and desire anything to her heart's content.

However, as this sense of desire lingered over her, it was interrupted.

Swish!

The sound came from a nearby bush.

(More Hollow Beasts? I don't understand why they don't just leave me alone.)

Saber took out her sword, the symbol of the eight-pointed star on its handle. When she moved the bush away, there was indeed a boar hiding there.

She sensed its thoughts before slitting its throat. The boar had originally planned to eat Saber, but after sensing her overwhelming aura, it cowered in fear.

"There, there. I granted you a chance to run." She patted the boar's head with her sword.

Her cloak was now stained with blood, but it bothered her not. What was an animal's blood to her? It wasn't hers, so there was no problem with it.

Saber continued to walk away, the forest disappearing behind her. She was walking towards a city she had seen earlier, planning on discovering humanity's desires.

On her way, she tried to resist stuffing her face full of the meager cherries she had left... But she ended up shoving them all down her throat, including the seeds.

Her mouth was now beet-red, giving off the impression she had just eaten raw meat. She didn't bother cleaning her face, not until she saw the first billboard on the road ahead. The billboard showed an advertisement for cherry soda.

"Soda... Mmm, too bad it's all spoiled in this world. Why does time have to move so differently from Igxnfirx?!"

Huh? What was that? Oh, sorry, I did not mean to distract you or interrupt our story. Truly, I am not holding anything back from you; you simply cannot comprehend her words.

Igxnfirx. Funny name, isn't it funny? Try your best to pronounce it, please. I find it quite funny. This is the name of the dimension Entities are from. You simply cannot comprehend our language, so your mind fills it in with random sounds.

I did say there were things beyond your comprehension, yes? I apologize for the inconvenience. Next time this may happen, I will replace the name in a way you can understand. However, Igxnfirx will stay.

There is no way to convert this to a human language.

Once again, I apologize. Back to Saber, shall we?

"If it were just one eon similar, I could've replicated whatever year it would be right now. Soda..." She cried out.

It was too late for what-ifs; however, she had already sealed this dimension's fate. Even still, a thought came into her mind.

"Maybe, if I find and mix the ingredients of soda, I will be able to recreate it. No, that won't work either. It would just be a ritual at that point. I forgot chemicals aren't the same. Rituals don't benefit me either way."

Saber admitted defeat before exploring deeper into the city. She left out traces of her spiritual energy, making all the Hollow Beasts in the area go into hiding.

It wasn't as if anything in this world was truly powerful enough to harm her after all. However, a problem that she did not expect arose.

The crisp sound of a shockwave came through the air, causing her to jump away.

"What was that?"

Saber jumped to the tallest building nearby to surveil the area. Who could be disturbing such a peaceful world? That would be Leo and Haruto.

They weren't as lucky as Simon to have Jör, or any other entity for that matter, to suppress Hollow Beasts. As for Saber, she herself was an entity; the beasts didn't dare to bother with her.

"Haruto, how long have we been out now?"

"Mm, about three hours, give or take."

"Really? How does Simon explore his area so quickly... His reports are so thorough, too."

"Don't be so jealous, he most likely just writes down more than us. It's impossible to compare when he doesn't have me scouting for him."

"Really? I mean, I guess it is true."

Haruto just smiled at Leo before retreating. He had noticed Saber quite a while ago, but he was trying to decide whether she was friendly or not. In his eyes, he felt no intent for murder, let alone any from her.

Thus, he leapt from the street onto the building she was on.

"Excuse me, are you lost? I can provide shelter. We have a base not too far from here that is free from those beasts."

Saber didn't respond at first, but swiftly took a step back. She was fascinated by humans, sure. But there was a difference between fascination and the real thing.

"Who are you?"

Hearing Saber's voice, Haruto had guessed she was just a teenager. Oh, how he was wrong.

"I'm with the police, little lady. Come with me, I will protect you from this world's dangers."

Leo was busy collecting the scraps from the battle, and had just realized Haruto was gone. It didn't take long for him to realize where he had gone, and he followed in quick pursuit.

When he saw Saber's face, he raised an eyebrow, looking between her and Haruto in confusion as he climbed up.

"..."

(They're here to kill me.)

Leo's eyes shrank to the size of a pea as he finally saw Saber's outfit. She was bloodied, her rainbow, inhumane eyes emotionless. He instinctively deduced she was an entity!

He activated his Signature, at the same time pulling Haruto away by his collar. This caused Haruto to activate his own.

[Resonance]

[Foresight]

What Haruto saw next was his head getting cut clean off. He ducked, with Saber drawing her sword at the same time.

He barely managed to dodge with a minor cut to his forehead.

"You are here to hunt me? To disturb my peace? Then die."
