Chapter 13 - Chapter 7: Fending Off Greedy Relatives(4)

I smiled inwardly, thankful that the information I received from the Heavenly Ledger Eye had been correct.

I had lied when I said that my parents talked about these pieces of jewelry, no, they hadn't.

When they were with me, they rarely spoke about anything other than my studies.

I could barely remember much at all.

But the Heavenly Ledger Eye had given me a great deal of information about the items it recognized as belonging to me.

I had merely read them aloud, that was all.

"O-oh! Now that I remember, this isn't the jade pendant I bought. I don't know how it got mixed with the other things that belong to me… Haha… this is strange…"

What?!

He was still trying to cling to it?

I stared at him intensely.

I didn't know what I was feeling at that moment, but it felt as though my entire body was being overtaken by a burning rage.

Still, I forced myself to speak as calmly as possible, locking my gaze onto his eyes.

"So, you're still not going to accept your mistake, Uncle? You're wasting everyone's time. What you're trying to do is meaningless. I know everything about the items in this house."

"Starting with the jade hairpins, they are a matched pair, but one is heavier than the other because it has a thin silver core inside. My mother always wore that one on her left side."

"As for the silk clothes, they are not pure silk. They're woven from a blend of silk and gardenia petals. Even after years, they still retain a faint fragrance."

"And the silver bracelet, you must have thought it was just an ordinary bracelet that could be sold for a few meager silver taels. But it isn't. It's made of eighty-two parts pure silver, three parts spirit copper, and fifteen parts cold-iron essence. Each metal has a different melting point, easy to verify. Would you like to check?"

"No, you'll probably say next that you overheard me talking about these things and simply repeated what I said. So how about this? Shall we check where each item can be sold, and which craftsmen are capable of making them? I know everything, when, where, and how my parents acquired each piece. Shall I list the exact places where these items can be purchased, and at what price? Or do you want to say—"

"Little Tianyuan, that's enough."

Suddenly, I felt a hand gently rest on my head, stopping me from speaking further.

Only then did I snap back to reality.

Uncle Chen softly brushed my hair, repeating with a warm smile, "You don't need to say anything more. That's enough."

When I looked up, I saw faces filled with disbelief, eyes widened in shock, complexions pale.

Uncle Zhenhao, Aunt Zhao, Li Wei… everyone was staring at me as if they had seen a ghost.

I didn't understand why they were looking at me like that.

I had only spoken aloud what the Heavenly Ledger Eye had shown me.

It felt as though I had lost control for a moment, something that had never happened to me before.

"Sigh… There's no point insisting any further. I accept it. Everything you found belonged to little Tianyuan's parents…"

I let out a quiet sigh of relief, knowing that the uncle had finally accepted the truth.

Uncle Chen also relaxed a little.

Everything became easier once they honestly accepted the truth, now all that remained was to kick these people out.

But the next sentence froze our thoughts as Uncle Zhenhao continued,

"I know it's shameless, but we have no choice. Unless we do this, we can't retrieve the twenty-five silver taels I gave to Li Yuan…"

The entire hall fell silent.

Even Aunt Zhao looked at him with pure disbelief.

What the hell?

Did this man not know when to give up?

Just look at your own wife, even she couldn't accept such nonsense.

Unfortunately, before anyone could point out her reaction, she quickly masked it behind a pitiful expression.

"It may sound like a lie since I'm saying this after being caught, but it's the truth… I only wanted to retrieve what I gave to little Tianyuan's father…"

"OI, ENOUGH ALREADY! YOU'VE TAKEN THIS BULLSHIT TOO FAR!"

Even Uncle Chen, who had remained calm until now, looked at him with a mix of disbelief and disgust.

The guards stood there as well, their expressions completely stupefied.

I had thought Uncle Chen must have dealt with all kinds of people before, but judging by his reaction, even he hadn't encountered shamelessness like this very often.

"I CAN'T STAND YOUR DISGUSTING LIES ANYMORE. GET LOST BEFORE MY MEN BREAK ALL YOUR LEGS!"

Couple were clearly taken aback by Uncle Chen's sudden outburst.

Instinctively, they stepped back.

Aunt Zhao timidly wrapped her arms around her husband.

But shaking her off reassuringly, Uncle Zhenhao stepped forward and said,

"I don't care whether you believe it or not. This is the truth. I only want what I gave back."

"What proof do you have? Show me proof of Li Yuan borrowing money," Uncle Chen demanded immediately.

Still wearing the same calm expression, Uncle Zhenhao replied,

"I don't have any proof. Why would I need a guarantee when I was lending money to my beloved younger brother?"

"YOU'RE CLEARLY TALKING NONSENSE!"

"I'm not. I also wanted proof. I even hoped my brother would've written some notes or left something behind to record the borrowing but I didn't find anything. That's why I was forced to resort to such a despicable method."

This guy… just how shameless could a person be?

That was the question on everyone's mind.

He spoke utter nonsense with a straight face.

There was no way my father had borrowed money from this man.

I was absolutely sure of that.

If he had, he would've recorded it in his ledger without fail-- Wait!

It suddenly clicked.

"I know where Father's ledger notebook is…"

I blurted it out to Uncle Chen.

"…!"

My uncle's face immediately turned pale hearing that.

Uncle Chen noticed it as well.
