Chapter 11 - The Ice Princess

The supervisors declared the start of the practical test. The tension was palpable, even with me, despite having fought several real life battles. A supervisor, clad in a white and gold robe, called out for a female candidate, her name, Aliyah Terafania.

According to the wishpers overheard, She was the daughter of a Margrave in the Terafania territory, Margrave Francis Terafania. She was known as the ice princess, eversince she awakened the rare sword class, Glacier knight. Since then, her growth in power had always been unstoppable and rapid.

My curiosity was peeked. I activated my new skill Analysis and got a good reading on her stats. For a newly awakened as of four months ago, her stats were quite impressive.

The girl carried an air of confidence around her, which was typical of someone of her caliber of potential. The assessor for the test came out the other arena entrance. From a glance, I could tell that the assessor was no joke. So this is the power of people sent directly from the order of Holy knights.

He had a calm and grim expression.

In the stands, I looked around, hoping to see a holy knight or even a dignitary in the order. I saw no one.

I looked on with curiosity as the supervisor announced the start of their bout.

Aliyah took a curtsey and expressed how honored she was to dual with a knight of his caliber. The knight, Sir Knoltlese Brave, reciprocated the notion. Rapiers and blades were pointed, as the dual began.

" Whoosh!!!".

Aliyah vanished, a trail of cold air following her path of striking. The audience of students and the supervisors were intrigued. Sir Knoltlese countered the strike after a quick parry, only to be met with an ice covered rapier, blocking his counter.

They spaced out and from afar it was clear that they were on a whole different level of skill. The others were shocked, but I was not surprised in the slightest. What felt like unreadable move, wants to the students, looked like a slow motion capture image.

Sir Knoltlese brought his blade down to his side, taking a stance that looked like a trap to reveal openings. Aliyah was overconfident, and took the bait with ease, closing in with a quick step skill boost.

Her rapier was but inches away from putting the knight in a tough spot, only for her to be shocked, when he parried the strike and knocked her rapier away.

The match was decided. The shock was evident on her face. She was frustrated at her loss. Clenching her fists, she conceded and thanked Sir Knoltlese, who reciprocated the gratitude and complimented her skill.

The dual was over and Aliyah had passed the test with impressive results. The supervisors were checking three criteria for passing the test.

These were,

Battle skill, Stamina and lastly, magic control.

They graded from "D" to "A" rank, with "A" being the highest a person can score.

Soon after, a torrent of quick wins were recorded in the Knight's favor. My turn came quicker than expected. People looked on as I nonchalantly went to the battle area. From my heightened magic sense,I could see how powerful his aura was. He exuded a pure and brilliant aura. I walked over to the sword picking area, checking carefully to see the best blade amongst the riff-raff of crafted weapons.

Something caught my eye, it was a katana, I guessed that it was probably something a reincarnated person from Japan brought here. I was glad to see a weapon I was familiar with, but when I was about to grab it, the image of Lumina appeared in my mind as I remembered her saying to lay low. I groaned and picked a long sword, despite my fascination to try out my new powers with a katana.

I introduced myself to the knight, only to sense a shift in his aura. He was now emitting faint traces of blood lust. I was shocked at first, but hid my surprise behind an obvious act of nervousness.

I knew something was amiss, perhaps my father had more enemies than he thought. If I was to be sure of one thing, it was that a slight mistake in my alertness for this dual would spell my end, masked behind the guise of an accident.

I pointed the long sword at the knight, or potentially, my foe as the supervisor began the bout.

From the stance, a frustrated Aliyah's attention was quickly drawn to me, along with the shocked expressions of students and supervisors. I looked around and looked at myself once more, only to realize I hand unintentionally taken a serious fighting stance only veterans could use masterfully.

Outside the arena, my sister was now passing by to her next class, she saw my stance, and was excited to see her brother show off his sword skills. She felt oddly proud.

On instinct, I ignored the glances of impressed people, closing the distance between myself and my opponent in a blur. My blade struck with a force that sent the knight back a few inches.

Aliyah was shocked, attempting to read my stats with an artifact she had. It was a monocle. She saw my Photon Knight class and was intrigued that I had such stats at my age. Although my level was much lower than hers, the fact that my Photon Sword skill was level fifty, meant that I could best even her in a battle.

It would seem my attempt to seem invincible, only made matters worse. My days of school life in the spotlight were far from over. In fact, they were just beginning.
