Chapter 27 - 25 Heirs of the mainland

XU WUTAO

My brows creased together.

'Lang Wang is a Z-gen alpha who falls in love with a…'

'Z-gen Alpha movies to watch'

'Find Z-gen alphas around you. [www.getmeazgenalpha.com]'

'History of Z-gen alphas'

I scrolled through the endless trash disguised as search results, feeling the lethargy press down on me.

I checked the time, 7:32. I've spent over five hours just absorbing trash?! I scoffed. Unbelievable!

Why was it so fucking hard to find just one person?!

He seemed rich. Rich enough to have his own website or something... Right?! I mean, he was even getting engaged to my sister. Knowing my father, there was no way he was going to give out his precious daughter to just anyone. Right?!!

So why couldn't I find him on the freaking internet?!

I huffed.

Just then, an idea popped into my mind and I groaned. Already feeling disappointed in myself. You know one of those moments where you feel so stupid, you start to wonder how you managed to live as long as you had?

Yeah, this exact moment was that for me.

I sighed and tapped on the social media app on my phone. Why was the search engine my first option? Why was it even part of my options? I shook my head.

I typed in the same prompt and smiled as more relevant results popped up.

There was a video titled 'Heirs of the mainland', and I tapped on it. It started with some guy rambling on about a bunch of stuff, unrelated to the title, and repeating strings of words over and over again in different intonation and octaves.

I skipped through to the part I needed.

"…friends since childhood. Okay, number one on the list, —and this is not in any particular order— we have the C-Gen Alpha, Shen Yichen. Heir to the largest pharmaceutical company in the country, 'Zoren X'. Even if you live under a rock, you've probably heard of it…"

I stared at the image of the man on the screen, as the guy making the video went on to give more background story. The man's face held no emotion at all, his eyes were almost soulless… His name, however rang a very loud bell in my mind. Where had I heard it before? Nothing came to mind.

Anyway, I shrugged it off as I continued watching the video. Until the Face I'd been searching for appeared on the screen. The reason for my bloodshot eyes. The reason why in one sitting, I managed to consume more online garbage than I'd consume my entire life.

Interestingly, finally finding him didn't give me the sudden burst of emotion I expected. All I felt was… delightful relief. Like downing a cool glass of water after a long run in the sun.

I paused the video to take him in. The upward turn of his eyes, his sharp eyebrows, his firm lips, his sharp jawline… I breathed in.

He is immaculate.

His brow was arched upward, like he was throwing a dare. His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his eyes… Oh… his eyes…

I blinked. What was that?

Did I just swoon over a person? Me?! I frowned. Quickly, I tapped on the screen to continue the video, immediately putting whatever that moment was behind me.

"Alright guys, give me a second to catch my breath," the guy started. "because how do we all exist in the same universe as this literal god?!…" I fast-forward through the excited rant to the part where he actually gave meaningful information.

"…Feng Lang, heir to THE 'Golden Feng' mining corporation. At number three we have…" So that was his name.

"Feng Lang..." I echoed, testing how the name felt on my lips. A light tingle started at the pit of my stomach, and my cheeks began to— No!

I tapped my cheeks a couple of times to settle them down. Why did my body have to get out of control whenever he was involved?

There were so many questions I needed answers to, and fast. For now, I had his name and details. All I needed was a way to get close enough for the important part of the mission.

Him being engaged to my sister was one way… But the problem was 'Wutao'.

Wutao didn't have any reason to get close to him. There was just no natural excuse. Only 'Ren' could pull something like that off.

But Ren wasn't Xu Meilin's brother…

I chewed my nails as I thought up more ideas.

Meanwhile, another man's image appeared. This man had a wide smile on his face, somehow brightening up the screen.

"Omegas, this tall glass of fine dimpled wine is D-Gen Alpha, Wang Ruiqing. Yes, you guessed right! His family owns the renowned Wang constructions. Now although we don't know much about him, or anyone on this list for that matter…" he let out a dry chuckle "Rich people like to keep their business private. We do know, however, that he's engaged to this beautiful queen over here."

A picture of a woman appeared on the screen, and she was indeed breathtaking. "This is Zhen Minhui. I'll give you a few seconds to take her in." He proceeded to pause for about three seconds before continuing his commentary "You can pause the video if you didn't get enough of her. Anyway, she's the younger sister of the next person on my list, who is none other than D-Gen Alpha CEO of Dragon shipping…"

Dragon shipping… Dragon shipping… I repeated the name in my head, trying to jog my memory. Then it clicked.

Wait!

The person's image appeared on the screen, and I almost choked on my saliva.

"Zhen Long."

I immediately paused the video.

It was THE Mr. Zhen! My client from the other night! The rough Alpha who—according to miss Jia Li— has been after me since said night. My jaw dropped.

I quickly scrolled through my messages with Miss Jia Li for confirmation. lo and behold!

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!! Did I just discover my way into Mr Feng's life?

I squealed into my pillow. I couldn't believe it. It was right there all along. My heart pounded so loudly, I thought it would explode at any moment.

I let out one heavy breath after another as I opened my chats with Xueya. There was no time to waste.

She took no time in responding to my 'hi'.

Xueya, 08:01 pm: Why are you texting me from home?

I pulled a delightful smirk as I typed in my next message.

Me, 08:02 pm: I've found the alpha. I'm going back to work tomorrow. Same time, don't be late.

Once I was sure the message had been sent, I turned my phone back off, and pushed it under the pillow, placing my head on it with a hopeful smile as I stared at my ceiling.
