Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Crunch. Crunch.

Hearing the faint noise suddenly coming from inside the supermarket, Li Miao'er and Ye Qing'er instantly sprang from their chairs. Narrowing their eyes, they exchanged a look—Could there be zombies in this supermarket?

"Meow, you gather the crystals first. We'll split them when we get home."

Ye Qing'er whispered, then picked up the iron pipe she'd grabbed casually and quietly moved toward the source of the sound.

Thump!

Ye Qing'er kicked aside a pile of bread boxes in front of her, only to find a foam panel door behind them. A muffled gasp of surprise came from within.

Tap. Tap.

"People or zombies in there?"

Li Miao'er slapped the metal sheet on the door twice, the machete clenched in her hand. She was ready to kick the door in.

"Don't come in! Take the food and leave quickly! There are monsters outside that eat people!"

A man's sharp voice, tinged with fear and a slight tremble, came from inside.

"We've cleared out the zombies outside. You can come out now and look for your family. Hiding in here day after day, you'll get eaten sooner or later."

Ye Qing'er smiled as she persuaded, then took Sister Miao's small hand and headed for the exit. As long as it wasn't a zombie, she had no interest in ordinary people.

The man inside cautiously opened the foam panel door and peeked out. Sure enough, he couldn't hear the zombies' shrieks anymore.

He hurriedly ran out and chased after them. These two must be really skilled to have killed so many zombies.

"Big sisters, are you two police? Are you here to rescue me?" he panted, asking quickly.

Li Miao'er and the other turned to look at the person. He was wearing heavy makeup and reeked of strong perfume.

The exposed skin was quite fair, but unfortunately, the perfume scent was too pungent.

"No, we're local residents. What do you want?" Ye Qing'er asked with a smile.

"My name is Liu Lele. I'm the nephew of this supermarket's owner. My family lives in the Selangor Compound. Could you take me back? I can get my mom to give you a lot of money! She's the Deputy Governor of Selangor!"

Liu Lele looked at them with a condescending gaze. Two ordinary women—they must have never seen a rich young master like me.

He still felt like a prince adored by thousands. After all, his mother was a high-ranking official overseeing the entire state's finances.

If it weren't for the sudden disaster a few days ago, he wouldn't be begging two women in a place like this.

Heh.

Li Miao'er and Ye Qing'er sneered in unison.

The Selangor Compound was the administrative center of the entire Selangor State—the kind of place that was always packed with people.

And this rich second-generation brat was still talking in that tone, as if giving them orders. They really wanted to kick him into the stratosphere.

"No. We have things to do."

Ye Qing'er dragged Li Miao'er toward a nearby hardware store. She wasn't about to turn into a scumbag like some people's mothers.

"Ten million?"

"Twenty million! I can wire it directly to your cards! I can also have my mom arrange jobs for you. Whatever you want, I can give it to you!"

Seeing them about to leave, Liu Lele hurried forward to block their path. That's one-tenth of my savings—a sum ordinary workers could never earn in a lifetime.

"I told you, we have things to do."

Li Miao'er raised the blood-stained machete in her hand, growing impatient. She really wanted to cut down this rich brat with one slash—How dare you flaunt your wealth?

"I… I could even be your boyfriend! Just get me safely to my mom!"

As he spoke, Liu Lele tore off his T-shirt, tears streaming from his eyes, wearing an expression of utter humiliation.

"This is the last time I'm telling you: stay away from us, or I'll slash you! Get lost!"

Li Miao'er shoved him aside with an icy expression. With that shabby physique, who knows how many have had their hands on him? And he wants to seduce me?

"Meow, let's go to the hardware store to find a weapon."

Ye Qing'er's eyes were utterly indifferent. If this were before the apocalypse, she'd have seriously considered twenty million.

Too bad money now was worth less than toilet paper. If you wanted some, you could just go to a bank and haul it out.

"Fine! How dare you look down on me! Don't you ever fall into my hands!"

Liu Lele sat on the ground, watching the two retreating backs, his eyes filled with anger and thoughts of revenge.

Gritting his teeth, he got up, went back into the supermarket to reapply his makeup, then ran off into the residential area.

Zzzzzzt—

Ye Qing'er found a solid steel rod in the hardware store, along with a bunch of steel wire and nails. She also brought over a cutting machine and an electric welder to craft herself a proper mace.

"Sister Qing'er, help me weld this steel rod to the handle later."

Li Miao'er set aside the machete whose decorative pommel she'd cut off. The machete was too short and light.

Better to add a steel rod—increase the reach and make it more comfortable to use.

"Weld it yourself."

Ye Qing'er put on a welding mask and glanced at Sister Meow. I had to fumble around forever to learn how to weld, and now this little brat cat wants to freeload?

"Sister Qing'er, please? Pretty please~"

Li Miao'er blinked her watery eyes, giggling coquettishly.

"Could you stop being so disgusting?"

Ye Qing'er took off the mask and wiped the sweat from her face. It'd be fine if it were Yi'er…

She didn't want to hear a woman acting cute, even if this little naughty cat was adorable.

"Hmph, so stingy. It's not that hard anyway."

Li Miao'er pursed her lips and crouched down, wrapping the machete and steel rod together with steel wire, planning to secure it with a weld first.

Then she'd wrap several more layers with shiny steel wire and finish it off with layers of protective grip cloth. That should make it really sturdy.

"Little brat cat, my mace is done. How about it? Pretty domineering, huh?"

Ye Qing'er hefted the heavy steel-rod mace. The rod was nearly 1.5 meters long. The thicker end was wrapped in a thick layer of steel wire and studded with densely packed 5-centimeter steel nails.

If you got hit by this, even if you weren't killed outright, you'd bleed to death.

Tch. "Looks scary, but not as good as my big blade."

Li Miao'er smacked her lips disdainfully. I never expected 'Cow Qing' to like such violent weapons. Better be careful in future fights—I don't want to get hit by that thing.

"You're not suited for blades. You should learn to use a sword—something like a slender sword. Elegant and dashing. Interested?"

Ye Qing'er smirked, bringing over the big blade she'd just bound. Might as well help this little brat cat out. When I marry Xiao Yi in the future, she'll still be my little sister-in-law.

Pah! Li Miao'er stuck out her pink tongue, narrowing her eyes with a smile. "Swordplay against mindless zombies? How boring. Slashing with a big blade is way cooler. These zombies don't even dodge—only fools would use a sword."

"Oh? Pretty smart, are we? Hahaha~"

Ye Qing'er couldn't help laughing. What a silly little brat cat. If not for her talent, she'd be bullied every day.

"Hehe, I can hear you mocking me. So boring. I'm going to look for some fabric."

Li Miao'er blinked her beautiful eyes, pouted, then got up and walked toward the back bedroom of the hardware store.

She'd already killed the two zombies in the shop when they arrived, so it should be safe inside.
