We left the apothecary room and stepped back out into the quiet, starlit corridors of the palace. Just like before, Allen reached down and wrapped his warm, heavy fingers firmly around mine, lacing our hands together.

So casually, like he didn't just say the most vulgar words I've ever heard him say to me, literal seconds ago. My entire body was still on fire and I hated that I was the only one burning up while he looked completely chill.

We walked side by side through the grand stone hallways in a comfortable, easy silence, except that the thoughts in my head were really trying to eat me alive. By the time we reached the heavy oak doors of the royal bedchamber, my face had finally cooled down to a manageable temperature.
