Ezra
A wave of intense heat rushed straight to my face. My heart was pounding crazily, and I could feel my entire face turning red. At this point, if I don't put myself together, Allen would see right through me.
I quickly shook my head, avoiding his gaze, but despite my best efforts to play it cool, I felt this overwhelming feeling of sadness.
It must have shown on my face because Allen caught that split-second look of sorrow immediately. His own worry increased, and his expression shifted from suspicion to deep concern.
"Ezra, look at me," Allen pleaded softly, reaching out to cup my cheek gently. "Talk to me, please. What is going on in that head of yours—"
Before he could finish his sentence, another knock came.
"What now?!" Allen snapped. His tone held anger and frustration.
