Chapter 22 - [22] Angel Or Demon?

"Just where the hell am I?" Kagero lowered his head, shaking it in self pity.

"This isn't hell."

A feminine voice echoed from his side, startling him, and causing him to drift away from the surprising sound.

"Ohh sorry." The figure placed her finger on her lip in realization, following her words with a soft chuckle.

"I must've misunderstood a human slang."

Kagero watched the woman with wide eyes, his face pale, and his gaze observant as though he had just seen a ghost.

And maybe indeed he had.

He was expecting to meet another foul creature but the moment his vision fully studied the woman.

Kagero's vigilant expression relaxed, leaving one thing on his mind.

'She's really pretty.'

Kagero mused while staring into the lady's scarlet cat-like eyes. And with every passing second, Kagero felt an uneasy, yet strangely pleasant feeling that the lady's mystic eyes could peer even past his soul.

The strange woman chuckled, watching the sitting child.

Her lengthy silver hair shimmered with angelic grace even under the devilish moon, swaying behind her with each soft laugh like a comet's tail.

And sticking out of her barnet stood two pointed horns bathed in a flush of red, balancing out her seraphic beauty with an infernal attraction.

Her hair matched her white tunic with almost predestined perfection. However, there was more to the garment than just its ivory hue.

Streams of red patterns lined the tunic, its crimson seams so radiant that one would almost believe it bore an otherworldly energy.

The tunic hugged tightly to her skin, accentuating her shapely frame.

It was at this point that Kagero— gave in to his human instincts.

His eyes wandered to her ample chest, slight exhibitions of her snowy white skin teasing highlights of the full present.

Fashionable, but not promiscuous.

To finish off her outfit, a flared skirt of similar design with her upper adornment unfurled from her waist, stopping its travels on her mid thigh.

And two black opulent thigh highs ran through her legs, ending directly above her knees to offer the young lady a somewhat modest ensemble.

"Didn't anyone tell you that staring is rude?" The woman tilted her neck, spreading her lips with a foxy smile.

Kagero's face flushed red, and he turned his face away to avoid the lady's witty eyes.

"Ermm— sorry about that."

The woman swatted her hand in the wind.

"Ohh you don't need to be apologetic." She then folded her hands across her chest, twisting her hair around a finger.

"That's just a human instinct is all."

Her formerly jovial expression suddenly faded into a deductive one as she stared at Kagero for a brief moment.

"But for a human to have ended up here is really surprising."

Picking up on her statement, Kagero propped himself up to his feet, dusting his bloodied clothes.

"And where exactly is— here."

The lady's smile suddenly returned, as though flipping a switch between two characters. "Here? Well this is Shinigamikagure."

'Shinigamiga what?' Kagero wondered exactly the kind of place he had spawned in.

Realising his confusion, the lady then added a bit of extra details to her words.

"This is the world of the Shinigamies."

Kagero's face immediately twisted with confusion upon hearing her response. Yet, his fizzog barely quantified the level of bewilderment that now ravaged his mind.

Once again, there was another missing piece of the puzzle.

According to the show, once anyone made use of the forbidden jutsu that was the reaper death seal, they would end up in the death god's stomach for all of eternity.

He had broken that sacred rule.

Why wasn't he imprisoned in its belly? Why was he instead transported to this world? One that he had never before heard of.

Kagero bit his lip in thought, almost drawing out blood.

'Maybe she had something to do with it?' His mind swayed to his past encounter with the strange white haired woman.

The one he had encountered twice after his death.

"Since I've answered your question— it should be okay to ask one of my own." The lady approached Kagero, planting her hands unto her thighs to lean forward.

She then brought her face so close to Kagero's that their warm breaths mixed under her words.

'Uhm?' Kagero flinched, swallowing hard before arching his head backwards.

"How exactly did you end up in this world?" She asked, her insightful eyes firmly locked unto him.

Kagero's face blushed red, prompting him to retrieve his eyes from their former direction.

He then started to think up a convincing excuse, or decide on if he would go with the plain truth.

Right now, Kagero was fighting two battles:

Discovering a convincing reason for how a mortal wound up in the land of the death gods. And—

The unfathomably stunning lady who was just a head nod away from him.

"Well— that's because—"

"Wait, don't tell me!" She interrupted Kagero's words by placing her finger against his lips.

The woman then propped herself back to a vertical base, and hung her arms across her waist in thought.

Kagero watched as she shut her eyes, losing herself in thought.

He didn't exactly know what had come over her, but he didn't care. Kagero was just happy that he didn't need to convince her with a crappy story of his own.

"I've got it." The lady snapped her finger victoriously, then proceeded to fix her vision directly towards him.

Kagero couldn't help but feel uneasy under her smiling peer.

"Correct me if I'm wrong." She started. "You came to this world using the reaper death seal didn't you?"

'Huh?'

Kagero's eyes widened at her statement.

He wasn't expecting that the forbidden jutsu would also be known in this world too. But given the fact that it was the realm of the Shinigamies themselves.

It wasn't surprising that they would know about a jutsu that involved them.

He was just caught off guard by her sudden claims.

"Your expression tells me that I'm right." The woman smirked proudly.

"Hmm, you must be an extremely skilled Shinobi to be able to use that jutsu." Her smile remained.

However, not up to a second later, her face twisted in confusion, and she started to pace about.

"No, that can't be the only reason why." She stroked through her chin with every outward thought.

"Everyone who does that jutsu ends up in the King's stomach. So why exactly is he here?"

Kagero just stood still with a blank expression on his face.

The boy watched her move from one place to the other in a full circle, and stared around the eerie world once more, before pasting an awkward smile on his face.

'She really is invested in this isn't she?'

"Ahhh." She sighed in disappointment for her lack of knowledge for the matter.

"There are just too many unknowns." She rammed her fist into her head, slight hints of frustration forming on her face.

The woman then took in a tired breath, opening her eyes into a warm smile.

"At the end of the day all that doesn't really matter right now."

Kagero jolted, leaving his spaced out state.

Her deductions were so lengthy that the boy had lost interest whilst she still spoke. It kind of reminded him of the boss lady anytime she was drafting out her profits for the day.

'So she's done huh?' Kagero mused, then adjusted himself, facing the woman in wait for her next words.

"What matters is what decision you make going forward."

The woman's demeanor immediately grew serious.

Her eyes sharpened as she pierced Kagero with a firm gaze, and the air seemed to shift, halting under the menacing aura that seeped from the woman's person.

Kagero swallowed hard, burning his senses into an alert state.

"If you continue to stay in this world." The lady pointed at Kagero, her scarlet eyes shimmering under the moonlight's crimson radiance.

"You will die."
