Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Price of Remembering

The stars collapsed inward.

Luna cried out as the light around her twisted violently, dragging her through memories that were not hers, or were they? Faces she'd never seen but somehow recognized. Names she'd never spoken but could taste on her tongue. Wars she had never fought but whose scars she carried. Deaths she had never mourned but still grieved.

She fell to her knees in the middle of the starless void, hands pressed to her head as the torrent continued.

"Make it stop!" she gasped, vision blurring.

A hand closed around her wrist warm, solid, real.

It was the other Luna.

Still here. Still fighting.

"Focus," she said firmly, voice cutting through the chaos. "You're not dying. You're remembering."

Luna's head throbbed, skull feeling too small to contain what was being forced into it. "Remembering what?"

"Every version of you that failed. Every choice you made in timelines that no longer exist. Every death you've already died."
