Chapter 27 - Coffee Fiasco

RHEA POV:

Miss Amber walked in like she owned the building, her heels clicking confidently against the polished floor. She looked flawless as always — perfectly styled hair, red lipstick sharp enough to cut glass, and that cold expression that made everyone instantly nervous.

Mr. Cortez didn't look at her, but he didn't look uncomfortable either. They moved like people who were used to being around each other.

That alone made my suspicion worse.

"Coffee," Mr. Cortez said simply, sitting down at his desk.

"I just placed it there, sir," I replied.

He reached for it without looking at me, taking a slow sip.

Miss Amber's eyes, however, landed directly on me.

And stayed there.

Too long.

Way too long.

My heart skipped.

Did she see it was a disguise? No — that was impossible. Lucy's makeup was perfect. Rowan's posture. Rowan's voice. Rowan's clothes. Everything was right.

Still… her gaze felt like she was peeling layers off my face.
