Chapter 16 - A Savior in the Rain

The tears streamed freely down my face, mixing with the cold raindrops. I walked through the downpour with my head tilted back toward the sky, screaming at the top of my lungs. I didn't care if anyone heard me—or at least, I wouldn't have cared if there were any actual people around to hear.

I was the only person on the street walking without an umbrella. I was soaked to the bone, my hair plastered wet against my skin and my silk dress drenched and heavy with water. I didn't stop to find a shield or a roof; I just continued walking, my mind racing through the wreckage of how my life had turned out.

It shouldn't have been like this. I didn't deserve any of this. My life shouldn't have turned out this way because I had been a good wife and a good daughter-in-law. I had treated everyone around me with kindness, but still, that wasn't enough.
