And then Fitzgerald and Samantha were married.
Catherine noticed, with quiet happiness, how warmly Fitzgerald's parents welcomed Samantha into the family. There was no cold scrutiny, no aristocratic disapproval, no attempt to mold her into someone she wasn't.
They simply welcomed her.
Samantha, who had once been terrified that she would never fit into Fitzgerald's world, eventually stopped worrying about fitting into it at all.
She had become part of it.
Amelia and Timothy got married too, but by then, they had another son along with Charlotte.
Around the same time, the investigation into Dorian Blackwood's death finally concluded.
The authorities formally cleared Maximilian and Catherine of any wrongdoing connected to the exposure of Dorian and his company. The official conclusion was that Maximilian had played no part whatsoever in Dorian's murder and that Dorian had died at the hands of a mentally ill woman who believed he was a king responsible for ruining her life.
