Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: The First Nights of Survival

Kalin and his little sister stepped out into the dark streets, their hands tightly clasped.

The city looked completely different at night: unfamiliar alleys, flickering streetlights, and shadows that seemed to move with a life of their own.

"Brother… where are we?" she whispered, tears in her eyes.

Kalin tightened his grip on her hand, trying to hide his own fear.

"We… we'll find our way," he replied, though he wasn't entirely sure himself.

They walked for what felt like hours, searching for some sign of safety.

Every sound—the distant footsteps, the rustling trash, the sudden barking of dogs—made them jump.

But with each step, Kalin felt something stirring inside him: responsibility, courage, and determination.

He looked down at his sister, her small face filled with trust despite the fear, and promised silently:

"I will protect you… no matter what."

Eventually, they found a corner that seemed slightly sheltered, where they could rest for a short while.

Kalin shared the small bit of bread they had, and his sister smiled faintly, giving him hope that they could survive together.

The first night in the streets was harsh and cold, yet for Kalin, it was also the first taste of freedom, a glimpse of a world where he had to rely on his own strengthThe streets were darker and colder as night deepened.

Kalin and his little sister moved cautiously, their eyes scanning every corner.

Suddenly, a shadow darted across the alley. A stray dog barked aggressively, baring its teeth.

Kalin stepped in front of his sister, shielding her.

"Stay behind me," he whispered.

The dog lunged at them, but Kalin quickly grabbed a stick from the ground and waved it.

"Go away!" he shouted, his voice stronger than he felt.

The dog hesitated, then ran away, leaving Kalin and his sister trembling but unharmed.

Kalin realized this was the first real test of survival.

Every step in the streets brought new challenges:

A man asking for money aggressively.

A group of street kids trying to take their small belongings.

Sudden heavy rain, making the streets slippery and cold.

Through each challenge, Kalin's courage grew.

He learned to act quickly, think strategically, and never let fear control him.

His sister watched him closely, her eyes full of admiration and trust.

"I… I'm proud of you, brother," she whispered.

Kalin smiled faintly, feeling a warmth in his heart despite the cold around them.

The night was long, and the challenges were just beginning.

But Kalin knew one thing for certain:

No matter how harsh the world became, he and his sister would face it together.
