Chapter 20 - Pevert

Karl POV:

She stood there wrapped in a towel, steam curling around her like smoke. Damp hair clung to her shoulders. Bare legs. Bare collarbone.

And cleavage.

Real.

Not hidden behind bindings.

Not imagined from old photographs.

Real.

My eyes betrayed me, dropping for a fraction of a second before I forced them back up.

Control yourself.

"You didn't answer," I said, clearing my throat. "I thought maybe you fell."

"I'm fine," she replied softly.

Her voice had changed. Quieter. Warmer.

She stepped closer.

My wolf reacted instantly, senses sharpening. I could hear her heartbeat again — steady but deliberate.

She was aware of me.

Very aware.

"Thank you for helping me," she said.

Her fingers brushed my arm.

It felt like a spark.

I tensed without meaning to.

"You don't have to thank me," I replied.

"I want to."

The silence that followed was thick enough to touch.

She was watching me.

Me.

Not like prey watches predators. Not like someone afraid.
