Chapter 13 - 13: Blank's thoughts

Rukiyo chewed quietly on the mandarin that Blank gave her, her eyes glued to his crouched form a couple of feet away from her.

After she showed signs of accepting his little offering, Blank moved away and settled himself by the corner, letting the moonlight fall over him as he plopped himself on the cave's floor.

It was unnerving, to say the least.

She wasn't expecting anyone to be this friendly on her first night in this world, so she couldn't help, but keep an eye on him.

On her first bite on the mandarin, the citrus quickly invaded her sense of taste, causing her to relax and melt as she chewed on the pieces that were always peeled.

She could only guess that it was peeled by him, considering that he took a long while before he went back inside the cave.

She continued to eat the fruits, starting with the orange citrus first before moving onto the other one, both fruits making her salivate and melt in her spot on the floor.

While she was busy eating, the man that stationed himself by the entryway of the corner kept his eyes on her.

When he first saw her, he knew that she wasn't human— the horns, the pointed ears, the wings, and the tail that curled around her waist gave it away.

A part of him screamed that he should tell his brother about her, that there was a dangerous being inside the cave with them, that a monster is waiting for them, but she.. She didn't make any movement and only stared back at him, looking like she was caught stealing a cookie.

It was adorable— she was adorable.

He couldn't help, but swallow the words that itched to escape his mouth and lie for her sake.

Then, when night fell, he waited for her to make a move, to attack him and his brother, to slaughter them in cold blood, because he knew that if she tried to do so, they wouldn't stand a chance.

She reek of strong mana and it was incredibly heavenly, but it was also suffocating.

He didn't know what to do with the knowledge that a strong monster is near them, who is just lurking, waiting, and probably watching.

So, with his resolve hardening, he sat up from his spot beside his brother and stepped over him, cautiously making his way farther inside the cave where he quickly made a left turn and spotted the said monster.

To his surprise, the monster was already staring at him so he froze.

He waited for her to make the first move, to strike first, to attack him without remorse, but to his surprise once more, she merely continued staring at him.

And upon closer look, he noticed that she was staring into nothing.

He swallowed thickly, his feet moving forward before he could process what he was doing, then without warning, he crouched down right in front of her and stared.

He doesn't know why he did it, but all he could do was stare and stare, and just.. Stare.

She's a monster, that much is obvious, but she looked so beautiful, so divine— that he's starting to think that she was a goddess that fell from the sky.

That wouldn't be too far off, right? After all, heavenly beings falling from heaven was said in the old testaments, stating that they descended the mortal realm where all kinds of races started to walk into.

It was thousands of years ago, but..

It's.. It's not like a heavenly being won't descend this realm once more.. Blank thought, watching the beautiful monster before him eat to her heart's content.

He couldn't tear his eyes off her for some reason, the mere sight of her enjoying the fruits he harvested made his heart flutter.

She was curled up, her knees tucked into her chest, but she still looked beautiful.

Blank let out a sigh through his nose, his gaze softening as he forced himself to look away from her. All of a sudden, he felt shame crawl into his skin, making him feel like he's some kind of creep.

Crunch.

The sound reached his ears, causing him to snap his head up and look back at her.

She finished eating all the fruits he brought for her and she was licking the outer part of her lips for excess that spilled from the fruits.

He looked away once more, his eyes shifting towards his brother.

The man's chest was heaving up and down, his mouth open as he let out a loud snore, before he twitched in his sleep and rolled over to his other side, facing the cave's entrance.

Blank huffed, deciding to go look for more fruits for her.

He took a step forward, only to freeze when he spotted the beautiful monster shift in her spot and stand on her feet.

He stopped immediately and turned his head to look at her, waiting for her to make her next move.

Rukiyo shuffled in her spot and she fidgeted with her fingers, her tail swaying behind her as she gathered the courage to ask the man to help her leave the cave.

While she was eating, she noticed that he stared at her openly and watched the way she was eating.

She could tell that he wanted something from her and that he was interested in her, one way or another, so she will take advantage of that interest.

The only problem is..

How.. How can I not make this awkward? Rukiyo thought, her heart beating fast inside her chest as she teared her gaze away from him.

She hasn't talked to him yet, but she already feels like she will collapse on her spot.

Okay, okay.. First, I think I have to talk..? Right? Rukiyo thought, asking herself rather than hyping herself up, because the woman still felt nervous at the mere thought of trying to talk to him.
