Chapter 28 - My Demon Trait

Early the next morning, Ethan was already awake in his night robes.

He rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he finally decided to go through the rewards he put off since.

The glow of system screens materialized before him.

[You saved yourself from captivity and escaped a full guild: +3500xp]

[Bonus Reward: The System has offered you a special reward]

[Total Experience points: +12,450xp]

This was the total experience points gathered over the last few days.

However, what really caught his attention was that special reward notification. His eyes lingered on it.

"Show me this special reward," he muttered.

[Congrats! You have been rewarded with a Legendary Class summon]

[Summon Name: Nina Dragonheart]

Ethan's eyes widened. "Legendary class?" he repeated. Damn, the system wasn't joking when it referred to this as a special reward.

His summoner level was still at 2, which meant he wasn't even entitled to gain legendary class summons yet.

But a reward like this? It completely bypassed his level limitations.

He felt deeply excited and was really tempted to call this summon out right here and now. But then stopped himself.

No. Bad idea.

The mana signature of a legendary class summon would rattle the entire manor. Eduardo would be up here in seconds, probably with his katana drawn, thinking the house was under attack.

Legendary class summons could equate to the power of S-grade beasts. That kind of presence wouldn't go unnoticed.

And that old man had worried enough last night. Ethan didn't need to give him a heart attack first thing in the morning.

With that sobering thought, Ethan decided he would check out the new summon much later.

There was, however, one more thing Ethan had felt yesterday. Right when he had just broken off the cuffs that held him captive.

It had felt like the first day he tapped into his demon nature, but this time, only more pronounced.

He didn't feel like that right now, which only meant whatever that empowerment was, it only came when he transformed into a demon.

Therefore, this thing he felt had to be one thing. A special trait.

Certain families had special traits that their members possessed. To be specific, it was something only for those who were pure bloodlines of the said family.

For example, Wilson's Compulsion was something only the pureblood vampires of the Heydrich family possessed.

Every major family had something like that. A genetic gift that set them apart.

"What trait do I possess as part demon?" Ethan asked the system.

[House Azazel's special trait is Amplification]

"House Azazel…" Ethan muttered the name slowly.

This was a family one of his parents was from. It was then that it occurred to him, he didn't really know much about his heritage.

The original Ethan's memories were frustratingly vague on the subject.

"Is there more you know about House Azazel?" Ethan asked, genuinely curious now.

[Not at this time]

"Hm." Ethan just nodded, a bit disappointed.

Then he said, "Well, show me what this Amplification can do."

Right then, another screen followed up, and Ethan leaned in to read it carefully.

[Amplification: This trait allows the user to increase any magical or physical phenomena by 100%]

"Jesus!" Ethan exclaimed with widened eyes.

Jesus wasn't even a name known on this planet, but the soul possessing Ethan couldn't help himself from yelling it out.

Ethan's mind raced through so many possibilities at once.

"Spell damage? Albedo's teleportation range? Strength of my punches?"

[Affirmative. All of that could easily be amplified by 100% of its original effect]

"Goddamn!" Ethan exclaimed. This was broken. Utterly broken.

If he cast Fireball, it would hit twice as hard. If he borrowed Albedo's teleportation, he could jump 200 meters instead of 100.

But right then, Eduardo stepped into the room and saw Ethan's exhilarated face.

"What brings you joy this morning, Master Ethan?" the butler asked.

Ethan immediately toned down his expression and waved his hand dismissively. "Nothing… nothing."

Eduardo nodded, then proceeded with why he was here.

"I thought I should let you know that Miss Valerie is still waiting downstairs."

"Oh, yes, yes, the Hemilton woman." Ethan said, recollecting they had pushed the whole thing for today. "I'll be right with you all downstairs shortly."

Eduardo nodded, then added, "And what about Belsorth today, Master Ethan?"

Ethan gave it a brief thought. If there was any reason for him to be in Belsorth today, it would've been for Isabella. At least to apologize for yesterday.

His Arcphone had gone missing since being abducted, which meant he couldn't reach her by that means either.

She probably thought he had just blown her off like some jerk.

He sighed, then looked toward Eduardo while saying, "No. No Belsorth today."

He decided to focus on the task at hand, which was undoing the restriction placed on his dragon side. Everything else could wait.

Eduardo nodded and proceeded to leave when Ethan called him back.

"Eduardo, what do you know about House Azazel?"

The butler froze mid-step, then slowly turned.

Even while telling Ethan about his hybrid nature a few days ago, Eduardo had never mentioned that name.

"Can I ask how you know that name, Master Ethan?" The butler asked.

"Does it really matter?" Ethan replied with a shrug. "I already know that's the family my demon heritage comes from. Just tell me what you know about it, if you know anything."

Eduardo stared at him for a long moment, then he sighed and shook his head, as if resigning himself to this conversation.

He gave it a brief thought, then said, "Your father, late Master Nathan, was an Azazel. But he wasn't just any Azazel. He was the last of that bloodline before you."

"What?" Ethan muttered, genuinely surprised. The last?

That sounded… ominous.

Eduardo nodded solemnly and then added, "But that's all I know, Master Ethan. Your father was an extremely cautious man and did not talk about himself a lot."

Ethan nodded slowly, even though he still had a dazed expression on his face. His father had been the last Azazel? And now he was?

What the hell had happened to the rest of the family?

Eduardo studied Ethan's face for a moment, then asked, "May I speak freely, Master Ethan?"

"Always, Eduardo," Ethan replied without hesitation.

"I made a promise to your father that I will protect you as long as I can, and until my dying breath, that will not change. I agreed to the removal of the restrictions that bind you because that, in itself, means you would also be able to protect yourself."

There was a pause before he added, "But intentionally seeking out more details about the families you come from is throwing caution to the wind. It is plain stupidity that will, in fact, get you killed."

Ethan was dumbfounded.

Eduardo had never spoken to him like that before, but he perfectly understood why.

To be honest, he wasn't even interested in knowing about his family in the first place. He'd only asked because the system had gone and mentioned "House Azazel" out of nowhere.

"I understand," Ethan said with a nod.

Eduardo then he bowed slightly before turning away to leave.

Ethan heaved a sigh, stood up, and followed behind.

It was time to meet this Hemilton woman and get his dragon side unsealed.
