Chapter 28 - The Azure Spark

[ The Main Gate of Eden - Amidst the Carnage ]

The matte-black Rover stood like a steel fortress between the living and the dead. The automated turret on its roof spun rapidly, spitting bursts of tracer fire at the shadows trying to encroach on their position.

Murphy leaped from the vehicle, the Tactical Ninjato drawn and ready. He stood firm, shielding the wounded soldiers, his sharp eyes scanning the chaos.

"Philip! These guys are in bad shape! Do something!" Murphy shouted an order as he sliced a shadow beast in half.

Philip scrambled out of the passenger side, lugging a customized field medic kit. He rushed toward a soldier whose abdomen had been slashed open, blood pooling rapidly on the snow.

"Hang in there!"

Philip hovered his hands over the gruesome wound and closed his eyes, focusing intensely.

Shimmer...

A faint, pale green light manifested around his palms. It was "Healing Magic"—a rare gift, but one he possessed only in a very limited capacity.

The magical light stanched the heavy bleeding and knitted the torn tissue slightly... but within seconds, the light flickered and died out. Philip gasped, his face paling from the exertion.

"Dammit... my mana pool is too shallow for deep wounds," Philip gritted his teeth, switching tactics immediately. He grabbed his field medical tools.

"I have to stop the bleeding the old-fashioned way! Keep pressure on it!"

He shoved hemostatic gauze into the wound and jammed a syringe of combat adrenaline into the soldier's neck.

"You're not dying today... I promise. But I can only stabilize you!"

Axel, watching from nearby, stared at the boy in awe. A mix of rare healing magic and advanced field medicine?

"Thanks, kid..."

"Don't get comfortable yet... Look up!" Murphy's voice was tense.

atop the 50-meter-high city wall, the thousands of Shadow Aberrations pouring down like a black waterfall weren't spreading out to attack individually anymore.

They were... "Merging."

The black sludge flowed together, twisting and expanding like malignant clay until it formed a "Shadow Colossus" nearly as tall as the wall itself.

It had no fixed shape—just a mass of writhing tentacles and hundreds of screaming mouths.

"ROAAAARRRRR!!!!!"

Its roar generated a shockwave that shook the heavy Rover, cracking the reinforced windshield.

"What in the hell is that..." Murphy gripped his sword tight, sweat trickling down his temple.

"Philip! The gate! Open it NOW! We're dead meat if we have to fight that thing!"

Philip left the wounded soldier. "Keep pressing on that wound!" he yelled to another survivor, then sprinted through the crossfire to the control console beside the giant gate.

It was an ancient terminal, dead and silent for sixty years.

"Please work..."

Philip pulled The Core (the glowing cubic artifact) from his backpack and slotted it perfectly into the master keyport in the center of the console.

Simultaneously, he commanded the Seeker Orb to bypass the encryption.

Hum... Hum...

Lines of golden light surged through the grooves of the massive gate! The ancient system woke from its slumber.

[System Detected: Master Key Accepted]

[Status: Gate Unlocked]

The sound of locking mechanisms disengaging echoed—Clunk! Clunk! Clunk!

"Yes! It's unlocked!" Philip shouted in triumph.

But a second later, his face fell. The gate groaned—Creak...—moved an inch, and then jammed completely.

"Murphy! It won't open! The hinges are seized with rust! The hydraulics don't have enough pressure to push the doors!"

Philip turned to his brother, eyes fierce.

"We need a 'Massive Kinetic Impact' right on the hinge joint to jumpstart the mechanism!"

"Massive impact, huh? You got it!" Murphy smirked savagely.

The Shadow Colossus raised a fist the size of a truck, aiming to crush them all into the dirt.

Murphy didn't run away... He sprinted towards it.

"COME ON!!!"

BOOOOM!!!

The giant shadow fist slammed down. Murphy caught it with the Tactical Ninjato.

The ground beneath him shattered into a crater, but Murphy didn't buckle. He used the high-carbon steel blade as a "Conductor," absorbing the titanic force of the blow.

The violent vibration traveled down the blade, into his arms, and accumulated within his body.

Murphy felt like he was holding a lightning bolt. His muscles screamed as he converted the pain into raw power.

Zap! Zap!

Wild, unstable Azure Sparks began to arc from his body and the sword.

"Take it back... ALL OF IT!!!"

Murphy spun around, channeling every ounce of that stored kinetic energy into a single, devastating slash aimed directly at the gate's "Hinge Connection."

CRASHHHHH!!!!

[Critical Impact]

The massive kinetic discharge blasted the layers of thick rust apart like shrapnel. The giant steel gates groaned in protest—SCREEEEEECH!—and finally began to slide open!

The moment the gates parted... The Core, still inserted in the console, flared with a blinding light.

The connection was complete. It wasn't just opening a door... it was "Activating" the city's full dormant defense grid.

[Defense Grid: ONLINE]

[Initiating Ancient Pulse Wave...]

Vwoom.......

A wave of pure white energy erupted from The Core, expanding outward in a massive radius.

It passed harmlessly through Murphy, Philip, and the soldiers.

But when it hit the Shadow Colossus...

"SCREEEEECH!!!!"

The giant monster shrieked. Its body, struck by the ancient light, began to crack and dissolve like ice in a volcano.

Poof!

The massive entity vaporized into black mist in an instant!

Not just the boss—every single Shadow Aberration in front of the gate was wiped from existence by the holy pulse.

When the light faded...

Only silence remained. The city gates stood wide open, revealing the entrance to the Metropolis of Eden.

Murphy stood panting, steam and static still drifting from his blade.

He looked over at Philip, who was leaning against the console, exhausted.

"So that's... the true power of The Core."

Philip gave a tired, weak smile.

"Welcome to Eden, big brother... This is the real deal."
