Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2: “And You Have the Audacity to Tell Me, Are You Nut?”

When Lara got home, she went straight to her room and collapsed on the bed. School had been exhausting. Her phone buzzed, and when she checked it, she saw it was just a message from her mobile network. She dropped the phone and lay there silently, lost in her thoughts. Within minutes, she drifted off to sleep.

When she woke up, she checked the time and was shocked to see it was already 5:00 p.m. She hurried to the bathroom to shower. Afterward, she wore a black sleeveless top and pink shorts, then walked into the kitchen to look for something to eat. She grabbed a pack of cereal, poured it into a bowl, added milk, and began eating.

After eating, she returned to her room to work on her assignment. By the time she finished, her mother and younger brother were already home.

The Williams family consisted of seven members—Mr. and Mrs. Williams and their five children: four boys and one girl.

One thing common about the Williams family was their extraordinary looks and intelligence.

Mr. Williams was the CEO of Williams Enterprise, while his wife ran a supermarket. Before marriage, Mrs. Williams worked in a bank, but she quit after getting married because her husband preferred her to stay home. Four years later, feeling bored now that their children were grown, she expressed her desire to work again. Mr. Williams agreed and opened a supermarket for her.

Kyle, the eldest of the Williams children, was 23 years old. He graduated from Cambridge two years earlier. As the heir to the Williams Enterprise, he made sure to lead his siblings by example. Easy-going and charming, his smile could melt the hardest heart—but when angered, he was capable of the unimaginable. He was the CEO of one of his father's companies, and Mr. Williams planned to retire in a few months, after which Kyle would take over the Williams Enterprise.

Despite his charm, Kyle found relationships difficult. He had many female friends but wasn't romantically interested in any of them. His kindness often led women to misunderstand his intentions. He had a best friend, Stanley, who behaved like a second father to him.

Stanley was talkative, average in height, and good-looking. He had been Kyle's friend since childhood and worked as his personal secretary. Though they argued often, their bond was strong. Stanley had been dating his girlfriend for three years and planned to marry her once he finished building his house.

Stanley often worried about Kyle's lack of interest in women. At one point, he even wondered if Kyle was gay, but quickly dismissed the thought—if that were the case, he believed he would have known. Despite introducing Kyle to several beautiful women, none ever caught his interest.

Jayden, the second son, shared Kyle's looks but not his character. He was stubborn, rugged, and careless about others' opinions. Though he listened to his mother and Kyle, he still disobeyed them at times. He had a strained relationship with his father. After graduating from Cambridge two months earlier, he pursued a career in music. Jayden had loved music since childhood, and his voice was so soulful it could move people to tears, making him one of the country's best musicians.

Aside from being stubborn and rugged, Jayden is also a playboy. Girls flock around him like flies. In his 21 years of life, he has slept with more than 50 women, and he never sleeps with a woman twice. Women know about his rule and lifestyle, but they still choose to chase him because of his unearthly looks and money. Jayden, knowing what they want, gives it to them without any restraint.

Dante the third is an emotionless and quiet being. One can hardly pique a reaction from him. From the time he was little, he loved being in his own space and didn't like associating with people. It is sometimes even difficult for him to associate with his family because he doesn't like others meddling in his affairs. Dante is a calm soul, but he is not shy. When he speaks, it is firm and bold. He does things without thinking about what others feel, think, or say, but he does not do anything that would hurt others. That doesn't mean he tolerates rubbish from people. He is the most intelligent of Mr. Williams' children—a fast thinker with many skills his family cannot fathom how he learned, because he has had them since he was little. They know they are his gifts.

His features are ethereal—tall, with a chiseled face, high cheekbones, smooth bronze skin like that of a Greek god, an extremely handsome face, dark hair mixed with a few strands of gold, and captivating blue eyes.

He is in the same school as Lara, studying Computer Science, and is currently in his third year. He is very skillful with computers and can hack into different kinds of devices—skills that even people who have been in the profession for years cannot compare to.

Lara, the fourth and only female child, was once a lively and easy-going kid. When she started having nightmares at the age of 10, she stopped mingling with people except her family and her best friend, Lilith. She was taller than most girls, slim, with dark blue hair, and had the right curves in the right places.

Her beauty was otherworldly—a rare beauty people had hardly come across before. But she didn't know that, because her beauty was the least of her concerns. She was not the type to flaunt her looks. Anytime she looked at herself in the mirror, all she saw was a monster. When going out or to school, she always wore a hoodie to conceal her face and hair to avoid unnecessary attention. When she was little, she had lots of friends. People loved being around her because she was a great sight to behold, coupled with her sweet behavior. But now, things had changed. She was the complete opposite of her former self.

Moses, the last-born, is an energetic kid and a mummy's pet—always following his mom around. He is sweet like an angel and loved by all members of the family. A dark-brown-haired boy with green eyes, he took after his mother so much that he is sometimes mistaken for a girl.

At 12, Moses is already the lead player of his school football team. He is so passionate about football that he plans to pursue it as a career after school. His parents have already given him their full support.

One amazing thing about the Williams family is that they never force their children into what they don't want.

Lara walked up to her mom and greeted her.

"Good evening, Mom."

"Hey, sweetie. How was today?" Jane Williams replied.

"Boring," Lara answered as she walked toward Moses.

"Little man, how are you? Hope you've stopped picking fights with the girls in school," Lara asked, placing her hands on her waist.

"I'm not a little man, sis. I'm 12, for crying out loud, and almost taller than you. I don't pick fights with girls—they're the ones who keep following me around, and it annoys me," Moses replied tiredly, holding his forehead.

Lara's lips stretched into a thin smile.

"That means they like you. Don't tell me you don't like any of them," she said, her smile widening.

"Who wouldn't like Moses Williams, my little prince?" their mother chimed in as she walked out of the sitting room.

"Oh, Mom! I'm not a little prince. You're talking to the leader of Royals High Football Club. You all should stop treating me like a kid," Moses said, pouting.

Lara burst into laughter.

"Look who's acting like a tough guy. You just pouted like a kid."

"Why are you always teasing me? Oh, before I forget—my classmate said he'd like you to be his girlfriend."

"And you have the audacity to tell me? Are you nuts?"

"I got you. Look who's acting like the tease queen. Just one tease from me and you almost blew up."

"I will deal with you for that!" she shouted, chasing after him.
