The icy glare I fixed on Heidi made her shake like a leaf in a storm.
She understood perfectly well that I meant every word I said. Through her sobs, she repeated exactly what she'd just confessed.
The moment she finished speaking, I watched both Genevieve and Jasper's faces transform with shock.
Now they finally grasped why my fury burned so hot, why Heidi lay beaten within an inch of her life. A servant badmouthing her mistress—she'd earned every bruise and more.
Genevieve went white as a sheet, rage twisting her features. "You insolent wretch! How dare you spread gossip through these halls? You're finished here. Sentinels, drag her out and sell her off!"
Two servants moved to haul Heidi away, but I cut through their motion with a razor-sharp command. "Stop."
