Bella's POV
Ursula walked in with deliberate steps, her cane supporting her weight.
Her gaze held such heartbroken tenderness as it fell on me.
The moment I saw Ursula, tears spilled from my eyes, streaming down my face.
I could reject anyone else, but never Ursula.
"Grandmother." I collapsed to my knees, my voice breaking through sobs. "I've been such a disappointment as your granddaughter."
"Child, get up," Ursula whispered, her own eyes red with unshed tears as she reached down to lift me back to my feet.
As Ursula studied my tangled hair, she shook her head over and over, and from the guilt in her eyes, I knew she was blaming herself, thinking this was all her doing, that she had brought me into this nightmare.
She ran her fingers through my long hair, gathering it back up.
She took the hairpin from Martha and fastened my hair into place.
My chest constricted painfully, my throat closing up until I could hardly draw breath.
