Louis had decided he hated Julien the moment he walked through the door. It wasn't that Julien had said something wrong or done something heinous. He just found this newcomer irritating.
If forced to explain why he felt so annoyed, he could probably come up with several reasons. First of all, there was the look. Julien was tall, lean but muscular, and attractive. And then there was his attitude. No matter how haggard he looked when he entered their home, Louis could immediately tell that Julien came from money. He couldn't explain how he knew it. He just did.
But the most annoying reason was the way Lydia looked at him. He could tell there was something there. A spark. Louis didn't know whether they were ex-lovers or merely childhood friends, as Lydia said, but one thing was for sure, Lydia looked at Julien in a different way than she looked at him. And it was frustrating to see. That was why he used that afternoon's session to grill Julien mercilessly.
