Chapter 1 - The Shadow Between Skies

A Fantasy Novel written by : The one who dreams the storm

Introduction

In a world divided by clouds and light, where gods sleep above and mortals dream below, destiny is written in thunder.

Centuries ago, the heavens split into two realms — Aetherion, the City of Light, and Varethia, the Kingdom of Storms.

Between them lies the Veil, a shimmering barrier forged to keep the skies apart.

But when a single falling star pierces the Veil, it awakens five souls bound by fate.

Royal heirs, rebels, warriors, and seers — each carries a fragment of an ancient power known as the Veins of Eternity.

Together, they will love, fight, betray, and sacrifice beneath skies that were never meant to touch.

And when lightning meets cloud, the world will remember the name of those who defied both heaven and earth...

Chapter 1 — The Falling Star

The night over Aetherion had always been calm—silver clouds gliding like feathers, the towers of the royal citadel glowing with soft sky-light. On this night, however, the stars whispered restlessly. The wind smelled of metal and rain.

Princess Aeris Tempest, youngest heir of the House of Tempest, stood alone on her balcony. She had been dreaming for weeks of a storm that never reached her kingdom—lightning trapped behind invisible glass. When she opened her eyes this evening, thunder answered her heartbeat.

A line of light cut across the sky.

It wasn't a shooting star; it was alive.

The brilliance split the heavens in two and struck the floating mountains beyond the city. A sound like a thousand bells crashed through the clouds, shaking the citadel to its roots. Aeris stumbled backward as sparks rained from the sky gardens.

From the observatory tower, her brother Prince Ryn shouted, "Seal the barrier! It's falling through the Veil!"

But it was too late.

The Falling Star had already broken through the boundary that kept Aetherion above the mortal realm of Varethia.

In the lower skylands, a prisoner looked up through iron bars and felt lightning burn across his palms. His name was Kaen, once a knight of the Celestial Guard, now a wing-scarred exile. The mark of the storm glowed where his chains touched skin.

He whispered to himself, "It has begun again."

At dawn, the Council gathered in the Hall of Winds. Scholars argued, priests prayed, and engineers tried to measure the impact. No one could explain why the star had fallen—or why the palace crystals hummed with new energy.

Only Aeris felt the pull inside her chest, as though part of the light had entered her heart.

Her tutor, the old seer Master Orion, placed a trembling hand on her shoulder.

> "The Veins of Eternity have awakened. One born of storm will either mend the skies… or tear them apart."

Aeris met his gaze. "If the star chose me, I'll find out why."

Far below, on the drifting islands of Varethia, five different people felt the same tremor:

Solara, a battlefield medic, found her hands glowing with fire when she tried to save a soldier.

Lucien, an inventor, watched his mechanical runes ignite on their own.

Nyra, a blind oracle, saw her first vision in years—of a crimson moon.

Dae, a rebel captain, saw waves rise as if obeying his anger.

Mirae, a sea priestess, felt the ocean whisper a forgotten name.

None of them yet knew that the falling star had bound their destinies together.

---

That night Aeris dreamed again: lightning forming the shape of a man with broken wings.

When she woke, her guards announced that a stranger had been captured near the outer sky-wall—his body marked by celestial scars.

And the moment she heard his name, her heartbeat echoed the thunder outside.

> "Kaen of the Broken Sky."
