Silas couldn't believe what had happened before his eyes. He stared wide eyed at the corpse of his father. His breathing uneven, his mind flooded with thoughts. Then he looked at his mother who was gasping for air, she was shocked too. Her hand was bleeding, from holding the knife earlier, yet she didn't feel the pain . She tried to calm herself and tried to think what killed her husband.
Silas knew what his mother was thinking about, he also knew that he killed his father. He felt it when it happened, he felt it when his powers were emerging within him. He saw the portal forming on top of his father's head , he was the one who commanded it to close. He was scared at that moment, and wanted his father gone that's when it happened. The portal listened to him. Realisation hit his mother, she figured that her son could have an ability. It wasn't the first time she heard about abilities being destructive, but first thing's first, 'what can she do to the corpse'. She had to protect Silas .
30 minutes had passed both of them stared at the corpse in silence. The mother broke the silence, "Silas" she called out to him. "Hm" he responded, he didn't dare look up at her face , guilt was eating him up. "Silas, look at me" this time a little gentle. He looked up at her eyes they were teary, at that moment he broke down he started sobbing. His mother hugged him she felt guilty for raising him with his father, she should have run away with him the moment she knew he was abusive. She stayed convincing herself it was for Silas's sake.
Silas calmed a little bit and started screaming sorry. "Shh, it's okay" his mother said in soft voice. She was holding back her tears . Looking at her son like this broke her. She felt a little empty her husband is dead, but she didn't feel sad, she was actually relieved . She was relieved she wouldn't have to face him any more.
She looked back at Silas who was as pale as a corpse. Her grip on Silas hardened. "hey" she spoke up. Silas wasn't sure how his mother would react . He buried himself in his mother's shoulders unwilling to look back at her face. " I am sorry" his mother whispered in his ears. She tried her best to hold her tears back , but a few escaped her eyes .
Then suddenly as if to interrupt their conversation,someone knocked at the door. Both of them looked out the window, the scene outside was painted red and blue. It was the police.
A chill ran through their spine. Due to all the commotion they didn't hear the sirens ringing outside. It was the police. That's when it hit them. They were terrified, they didn't have any to cover the proof. They were already distraught by all that had happened, his mother was especially terrified trying to come up with excuses, she tried hard to think but nothing occurred to her mind at that moment.
"Silas, w-whatever I say just play along alright."she wasn't so sure herself. The knock on the door intensified. Each knock tested their resolve to open the door
His mother hesitated, she knew it was too late . Even if she didn't open the door, they would break the door open. She went towards the door, Silas followed her . She opened the door forgetting what state she is in. She was too focused on coming up with excuses that she didn't realise what state she was in.
There were two police officers, looking at her, their expression turned into one that of concern. The female officer spoke up first "are you okay ma'am". That's when she looked at herself, her hair was a mess. Her wrist was covered with handprints, her eyes were teary, her pupils dilated . Her head was bleeding as she was hit with a bottle, her palms were bleeding. She didn't realise but she wobbled taking each steps, she looked like she would pass out any moment. She didn't feel any pain till now because of the adrenaline.
"Ma'am we received call about a disturbance. We need to ensure everyone's safety" the male officer said "Is there anyone else inside".
Her mind went blank unable to think anything. After a great difficulty she said what came to her mind "My husband and I just had a little fight I am alright, so you can go away ". She wobbled in front of the door trying to prevent them from entering.Her heart was beating like it would jump out of her chest at any moment.
The police looked at eachother, the female officer grabbed her gently, pulling her out convincing her to get treatment. The male officer went into the house. He noticed Silas inside he looked terrified. The officer gently asked Silas to accompany his mother.
The female officer led Silas and his mother to the police car, she asked another female officer to treat their wounds and left. The male officer fully expected to see a drunk man sleeping in the hallway, he was prepared to arrest him.
But the hallway reeked of blood. The officer went into the living room, what he saw shocked him. The officer opened and closed his mouth a few times,before covering his mouth.
