Chapter 17 - 17 Night falls

Green lifted the carriage curtain. Old Green wasn't in the carriage; he must have gone to rest in another one. In his place was Calant, an acquaintance of Green's from the castle. Beside the carriage were two guards, longswords in hand and longbows on their backs, ready to relieve Calant and take turns resting.

"Lord Green, you're awake?" The two men quickly bowed and greeted Green as he emerged from the carriage.

"Well, I need to speak with the Baron and Captain Oss. Dean, Matt, could you please inform them and have them come over?" Green yawned, as if he had just woken up.

"Yes, Lord Green." Dean and Matt immediately responded to Green. Then, they rushed towards the front and rear carriages, taking three steps at a time. Before long, the clatter of hooves could be heard, and Baron Clow and Oss rode up to Green's carriage.

"Come in." Upon seeing the two, Green immediately ushered them into the carriage. Baron Clow and Os were also bewildered, but seeing Green's serious expression, they naturally sensed the gravity of the situation. Without hesitation, they quickly entered the carriage.

Once the two were inside the carriage, Green realized it was a little small. Baron Clod and Green, being of average build, weren't particularly large, so it didn't bother them. However, Oss, being enormous, made the carriage feel somewhat cramped. But that wasn't the time to dwell on that; Green cut straight to the point.

"Someone is following behind our group; they must be pursuers sent by the Kingdom of Saladin!" These words struck Baron Clow and Os like a heavy hammer. For a moment, the two were frozen in place, staring at Green in shock.

However, having been on the battlefield and weathered many storms, the two quickly recovered.

"Green, when did you find out? How many of them are there? What are our chances of winning?" Baron Crowe was the first to come to his senses, his face filled with anxiety as he asked Green for details.

In the eyes of Baron Crowe and Os, it was highly unlikely that Green would have called them here specifically to make such a joke; it was probably true.

"Just now, when I woke up and looked out the window at the scenery, I noticed something unusual in the jungle behind the convoy. I discovered that someone was following the convoy. After observing carefully for a while, I think there are five of them. We have been traveling day and night and have the advantage of starting earlier, yet they were still able to catch up with us. I'm afraid all five of them are Knight-level." Green made up an excuse and told the two of them the information detected by the chip.

As soon as Green finished speaking, Baron Clow and Os's faces turned ashen. In their eyes, five knight-level powerhouses were almost invincible. Since the opponents came from the military, they would definitely fight in coordination, making the effect far greater than 1+1. Ordinary knight-level warriors would probably need twice as many to withstand the opponent's attack.

On their side, there were only two ordinary knights and one knight apprentice named Grimm. Although Grimm was different from ordinary knight apprentices, he had never revealed his true strength in front of the two of them. In their eyes, no matter how strong Grimm was, he could not possibly be comparable to a true knight.

"There's no other way but to abandon our belongings and run away. Their main target isn't us, but our valuables. Hopefully, they'll stop pursuing us after we abandon our belongings." Baron Crow was quite decisive, instantly thinking of a way to survive by cutting off his arm.

"However, after abandoning these things, the journey ahead will be very difficult. Without enough food and water, many people will probably die while crossing the Vesas Wasteland," Os added, head down.

After the two finished speaking, the entire carriage fell silent. Baron Clod and Os even considered whether to abandon some people and escape alone with the core members.

Feeling the heavy atmosphere in the carriage, Green said with a slight smile, "It's not that serious yet. Even if the other side has five knight-level fighters, I can still handle them."

Upon hearing Green's words, the Baron and Os raised their heads, staring at Green in disbelief. Their eyes were filled with anticipation and confusion.

"My marksmanship is excellent. As long as you can hold off one of the guys I feel is the strongest, I can handle the other four." Green said this with confidence, as if he were crushing four ants.

"Grimm, are you really sure? This is no joke." Although he knew Grimm was special, the Baron, who had never witnessed Grimm's true power, still spoke with great concern.

"Don't worry, Baron, I'm sure I'm right. I wouldn't risk Old Green's safety, would I?"

Green's words were very useful. Everyone knows about Green's relationship with his father, and Green certainly wouldn't take such a risk.

Seeing that Baron Clod and Os had already agreed, Green quietly revealed his plan. The Baron and Os leaned closer to listen carefully to Green's instructions.

When they left the carriage, both Baron Clod and Os had smiles on their faces, showing no sign of worry whatsoever.

The two greeted Green and rode their horses back to their carriages, each carrying a small bottle as they left.

"Captain, when do we launch our attack? So much time has passed, are we still going to observe?" One of the young men in the group following behind the carriage asked a very burly man next to him with a hint of annoyance.

"White, put away your impatience. How dare you talk to the captain like that?" Before the person called captain could answer, another older person with mature and steady eyes reprimanded the young man.

"I was just in a hurry, Instructor Dis. It's not easy to go on a mission like this, so I definitely have to bring back some spoils." The young man's tone softened considerably as he defended himself.

At this moment, the person referred to as the captain also finished his observation. Looking at the young men under his command who were eager to make a name for themselves, he shook his head slightly.

However, recalling the intelligence that the enemy's carriage should only have two knight-level experts, and that their own forces could easily overpower them, they lowered their guard.

"Alright, the sun is about to set. After the sun sets, the other side will definitely rest. We'll launch a surprise attack then." The person called the captain made the final decision.

"Haha, you'll all see my performance then. But I've got my eye on several girls as my final spoils, so don't try to take them from me." White said, a wicked smile spreading across his face.

The people nearby, seeing the smile on White's face, all showed a chill.

White has always taken pleasure in torturing people, especially women he fancys, who are often left unrecognizable in the end. However, everyone has to admit that White does have the ability to do so. He was able to train in breathing techniques ahead of time and made rapid progress after becoming a knight's apprentice, becoming a full knight in just three years. In the legion, he was the most promising candidate to break through to become a Grand Knight, so no one cared about him.

The only one who could suppress White was Dis, and as the one who discovered White, White had exceptional respect for Dis.

On the forest path, both sides, each with their own thoughts, awaited the arrival of night.
