Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Following that, the group fell into an eerie silence.

A virus?

High-IQ biting monsters?

Should she try to flee the school now, or wait for police rescue?

The school must have called the police when the virus first broke out...

Why hasn't anyone come to save us?

Emma Smith looked toward the balcony. The thick blackout curtains completely covered the glass.

She had to see what was happening outside.

She gently slid her feet out of her slippers and, moving silently across the smooth floor, inched toward the window step by step.

Emma Smith carefully pulled back a corner of the curtain. A sliver of light from outside cut through the narrow gap, illuminating the empty dormitory room.

Outside the window of her female dormitory block was the area where students hung their laundry.

Emma Smith looked down and saw several figures gathered together, gnawing on something.

One of them was cradling a ball, hiding in the shadows, their movements incredibly bizarre.

The shape of the volleyball looked strange, but in the shadows of the night, she couldn't see clearly.

Emma Smith narrowed her eyes, leaning slightly closer to see what they were eating.

Finally, the person who had their head lowered to feed looked up, and the light hit the object in their arms.

It was a human head!

That shattered, incomplete face belonged to a girl who took advanced math electives with her.

The moment that face turned toward her, Emma Smith almost screamed, but her survival instinct made her clamp her hand firmly over her mouth.

What in the actual hell!

Emma Smith subconsciously cursed the entire lineage of whatever was out there.

Suddenly, one of the figures downstairs jerked its head up and looked straight in her direction.

Emma Smith froze instantly, not daring to move a muscle.

If she pulled the curtain back now, the movement would definitely be seen.

If she squatted down immediately, there would be a subtle shift. Even though she was in the dark, she couldn't guarantee she wouldn't be spotted.

She could only force herself to remain rigid, hiding within the darkness.

In the gloom, she locked eyes with the monster staring at her.

A piece of bloody meat still hung from the monster's corner of its mouth as it stared unblinkingly in her direction.

Noticing that the monster was looking this way, the other monsters also turned their gazes in confusion.

Emma Smith stared back at these bloodthirsty demons, motionless in the dark.

Her heart was suspended in her throat, her teeth clenched so hard they ached.

It felt like an eternity passed.

Finally, the monster lowered its head and went back to eating.

The group of monsters didn't spot her.

Incredibly tense, Emma Smith slowly crouched down, making sure she was completely out of the window's line of sight.

Just as she was about to gasp for air...

A blinding beam from a flashlight slammed violently onto the curtain above her head!

The curtain had been left with a tiny gap. The intense beam pierced through, hitting the snow-white ceiling and reflecting a harsh glare that nearly illuminated the entire room!

Emma Smith clapped a hand firmly over her mouth, watching the beam of light draw closer and closer.

The second floor wasn't far from the ground.

She could hear someone outside trying to climb up using the security bars of the first-floor windows!

And it wasn't just one person!

Hiding right next to the radiator beneath the window, she could hear the approaching footsteps with terrifying clarity.

If they just poked their head through the window, they would see Emma Smith hiding directly beneath it!

There were at least two or three monsters currently gripping the bars of the first-floor window, climbing up.

Emma Smith gritted her teeth, her eyes darting frantically around the room, searching for anything she could use as a weapon.

The sounds were getting closer. They were right under the window!

Suddenly, Emma Smith's phone gave a faint vibration.

The subtle sensation against her skin made the hair on her already terrified body stand on end!

But strangely enough, the people outside suddenly stopped moving.

They paused outside the window for a moment, then let out eerie, sinister chuckles before jumping back down to the ground.

Emma Smith stayed frozen for a long while.

Only after she was sure they weren't coming back up did she cautiously check her phone.

It was actually a mass text message from the Dean of Students:

"To all surviving students, send me your location. I have contacted the City Security Force to come and rescue you so we can fight against the [Evil Seed] together.

Your former classmates outside are no longer human. They are a group of creatures similar to zombies, but they retain their intelligence and a killer instinct.

These Evil Seeds are extremely dangerous. Therefore, students must not attempt to flee their current locations on their own. Please wait for my rescue."

A group of zombies that retained their intelligence?!

No wonder they had the presence of mind to unexpectedly shine a flashlight into the room!

...

After reading the text carefully, Emma Smith's hand, which had initially been ready to call for help, stiffened slightly. A creeping sense of horror rose from the bottom of her heart.

The school had issued a notification four hours ago.

Considering the police hadn't arrived in all this time, and recalling the group chat messages about people fleeing the campus, it was safe to assume the world outside the school had also fallen.

And now the Dean was so eager for survivors to reveal their locations...

Emma Smith stared intensely at the wording of the text message, analyzing it character by character.

The Dean had likely already been infected.

Borrowing the faint moonlight spilling through the gap in the curtains, Emma Smith surveyed her dormitory room.

In the empty and overly silent room, the pool of pitch-black, foul-smelling blood near the door was a shocking sight.
