Chapter 10 - CHAPTER TEN — THE SU FAMILY DISCOVERS CONSEQUENCES

The Su family woke to ruin.

It began quietly.

A missed call from an investor. An email marked urgent that was suddenly recalled. A government official who had always answered promptly now claimed to be "unavailable."

By noon, the silence had become deafening.

Su Wan paced the living room, heels clicking sharply against the floor. "This is impossible," she snapped. "Everything was fine yesterday!"

Her father sat rigidly on the sofa, phone in hand, staring at the screen like it might explain itself.

"They're auditing us," he said hoarsely. "The Duan family pulled their protection."

Su Wan froze. "Protection?"

"You didn't think our partnerships were coincidence," he said weakly. "They were… courtesy."

Su Wan's face twisted. "Because of her?"

Silence.

That was answer enough.

Su Wan laughed sharply. "So what? She plays doctor for a crippled heir and suddenly we're disposable?"

Her father flinched. "Watch your mouth."

"Why?" Su Wan snapped. "She's always been trouble!"

The black qi around the room thickened, feeding on their resentment.

Her father pressed his temples. "The Li family promised—"

Su Wan whirled on him. "Promised what?"

He hesitated.

Her eyes widened slowly. "You gave her name to them."

His silence confirmed it.

Su Wan's lips parted, then curved into a slow smile. "Then we didn't back the wrong side."

Her father stared at her. "What are you saying?"

Su Wan's gaze glittered. "I'm saying the Li family doesn't lose."

Outside, the Su family gate creaked in the wind.

And somewhere far away, Li Sheng smiled as reports came in.
