Chapter 17 - 17. Riolu

David sighed as he gazed at the Pseudo-legendary Pokemon eggs stored in Incubation Room No. 1. They were magnificent specimens, but unfortunately beyond his reach.

"All the Pokemon eggs available for your reward are over here," the staff member said, extending her hand toward the leftmost incubation room.

"What's in that room?" David asked.

"These are Pokemon most suitable for beginning trainers. You might know them as 'starter Pokemon,' along with eggs of similar rarity. There are also some unidentified eggs, but rest assured—every Pokemon egg here has undergone professional energy detection. Their quality is guaranteed."

"If you're lucky, you might even discover a particularly rare Pokemon!" she added.

Without further explanation, the staff member opened the incubation room door and led David inside, allowing him to observe the Pokemon eggs up close and make his selection.

David stepped into the room. Unlike the previous chambers, this one housed at least a hundred Pokemon eggs.

"This one is a Charmander egg," David murmured, gently stroking the shell before him. A warm sensation radiated against his palm. The nameplate beside it confirmed the egg's identity.

"Ah, the famous Charizard line!"

Charizard—the ultimate representative of starter Pokemon. A beloved species combining both strength and striking appearance, it was Game Freak's favorite child. The recipient of cutting-edge mechanics and gameplay features across multiple generations, Charizard was one of only two Pokemon to possess two Mega Evolution forms, the other being Mewtwo.

Many elite trainers in the Pokemon world used Charizard, including Lance and Leon. There was even Alain's notorious "Water-absorbing Charizard," a powerhouse that had seized the Champion title.

Besides the identified eggs with clear origins and parental lineage, numerous unknown eggs were available as well. However, selecting an unidentified egg was essentially gambling—a blind box. Until it hatched, no one could determine what Pokemon lay inside.

Choosing Pokemon through such uncertainty seemed unstable. If he found no other suitable candidates, perhaps selecting the Charmander wouldn't be a bad choice after all.

While considering his options, David suddenly remembered something and quickly called out in his mind.

"System, are you there? Can my Pokedex function scan unhatched Pokemon eggs?"

Of course! Only a fool wouldn't use such a useful tool. As the saying went, using available resources wasn't cheating.

"Ding~ Detecting that the host's current request aligns with system functions. Pokedex module upgrading... Ding! System patch upgrade complete! Pokemon egg detection function has been added to the Pokedex module!"

Excellent! His system was remarkably reliable. When problems arose, it truly delivered.

Gender: ♂

Ability: Blaze

Potential: Blue-Purple

Egg Moves: Bite, Outrage, Iron Tail, Ember

This was an impressive Charmander! The fact it could inherit Outrage suggested strong Dragon-type bloodline—likely one parent was a true Dragon-type Pokemon.

David set down the Charmander egg and turned his attention to the other specimens, his eyes gleaming with interest. Since he could view the eggs' information, and with so many options available, he needed to choose carefully.

David examined egg after egg. They were all decent candidates, but something felt missing. The Charmander he'd initially picked up remained the best option so far.

He refused to believe that among hundreds of Pokemon eggs, not a single one truly suited him.

David spent considerable time searching through the collection again, but found nothing that resonated with him.

As he paced back and forth, struggling with his decision, the Aura power within him—still awakening—suddenly trembled, as though touched by something. A mysterious sensation seemed to guide him forward.

"What's happening? Could it be..."

Realizing what this might mean, David quickly followed the sensation, walking forward until he reached the far corner of the storage room.

"Most eggs here come from the wild, unlike those bred in our facilities. They haven't been fully identified. Are you certain you want to choose from this section?" the staff member asked, noticing where David had headed.

The Pokemon eggs in the corner were mostly recovered from poachers or rescued from natural disasters. Although they'd all undergone official energy detection and were guaranteed to be of good quality, they lacked the stability and detailed information that officially bred eggs provided—complete with species identification and parental records.

Even if two Pokemon both reached excellent-level status, the resources and effort required for an excellent-level Caterpie to match an excellent-level Charmander's capabilities would be significantly greater. The difficulty involved was considerable.

"It's fine. I have a feeling I'll find the right partner here. I trust this sense of destiny more than guarantees," David replied.

He believed a suitable Pokemon awaited him in this corner. His eyes might deceive him, but his heart wouldn't. This resonance between Auras couldn't lie.

As soon as he entered the corner, guided by his Aura, David spotted a Pokemon egg decorated with blue patterns. The moment he laid eyes on it, he knew—this egg contained his destined partner.

David reached out and gently touched the egg's shell. A cool, metallic sensation met his fingertips. "So this little one is calling to me," he thought.

Ding~

Name: Riolu

Type: Fighting

Gender: ♂

Ability: Prankster

Potential: Light Red

Egg Moves: Detect, Miracle Eye, Agility, Blaze Kick, Bullet Punch, Vacuum Wave, Aura Sphere (Incomplete)

"This is it. This is what I've been searching for."

Looking at the information displayed before him, David felt like he'd struck gold. He'd truly hit the jackpot this time.

As expected, this Riolu egg resonated with his Aura. What he hadn't anticipated was how exceptional this Riolu's talent would be.

A Riolu with seven inherited moves, capable of resonating with Aura before even hatching—wasn't this another chosen one?

Wait—why did he think "another"?

In reality, others lacked David's system-enhanced ability to view a Pokemon's potential before hatching. Generally, the more egg moves a Pokemon inherited, and the more advanced those moves were, the stronger the Pokemon's natural talent. Inheriting three or four moves already indicated exceptional talent, let alone seven like this Riolu possessed.

Even without displaying potential ratings, the sheer number of egg moves revealed how extraordinary this Riolu's talent was.

What caught his attention most was the incomplete Aura Sphere. If he remembered correctly, Riolu should only master Aura Sphere after evolving into Lucario.

Examining the impressive statistics before him, David estimated this Riolu's talent nearly matched his Zorua's. Strong, elegant, and perfectly compatible with his Aura—this was undoubtedly the most suitable choice for him!

David felt triumphant, like he'd won the ultimate prize.

Lucario itself was a rare Pokemon, its scarcity nearly matching quasi-legendary species. Combined with this specimen's terrifying talent and Aura compatibility, the decision was clear. David carefully lifted the Pokemon egg from its incubator and approached the staff member.

"Are you certain you want to choose this Pokemon?" the staff member asked.

"Yes, I've made my decision."

"Remember, once you've chosen, you must treat your Pokemon well. If abandonment or abuse is discovered and confirmed, there will be severe consequences—a tenfold fine, a three-year ban from Pokemon-related programs, and the case will be referred to law enforcement for further action," the staff member said sternly, following standard protocol.

"I understand," David replied firmly.

How could he ever mistreat a Pokemon partner so perfectly suited to him? Even without the system's guidance, he would never abandon or abuse any Pokemon, regardless of which one he'd selected.

After the reminder, the staff member processed the registration. David finally left the breeding center, satisfied, carefully cradling the Riolu egg.

On his way out, David had an amusing thought: before his transmigration, his companion had been a pet cat. Now he'd happily acquired a dog-like Pokemon. In a sense, he'd become someone who owned both cats and dogs.
