Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Do you like Pokémon?

Lucas, who was still discussing with Gengar, heard the roar of a motorcycle from outside the door.

He looked back to see Jenny parking her motorcycle at the entrance, then she led Joy and the others into the Breeding House.

Jenny walked over to Lucas and softly explained the little girl's situation in detail.

After listening, Lucas looked at the little girl hiding behind her parents.

She kept her head down, not daring to look at him.

Her parents gently patted her, and only then did the little girl raise her head to look at Lucas.

Lucas saw that the little girl's eyes were full of fear when she looked at him.

He saw her hiding behind her parents, wearing a pink princess dress, her silver hair styled into twin pigtails, her delicate little face filled with fear as she looked at him.

"This situation really overestimates me."

Muttering to himself, Lucas motioned for Gengar to go to the backyard, then took a deep breath and squatted in front of the little girl.

Seeing Lucas approach her, the little girl trembled with fear and hid further behind her parents.

"Is your name Shauna?"

Lucas's voice was very gentle.

After not hearing Lucas continue for a long time, Shauna peeked out and glanced at Lucas.

She found him still squatting in place, a gentle smile on his face as he looked at her.

She nodded softly.

Seeing Shauna respond, Lucas let out a breath, then silently sat on the ground, subtly pressing his thigh.

He had been squatting for too long… Looking at Shauna, who had shrunk back behind her parents, Lucas didn't speak again.

Soon, Gengar came to Lucas with Petilil in its arms.

Machamp and the others also quietly came behind the counter.

Lucas reached out and took Petilil, gently patting her little head, "I'm counting on you."

Lucas's voice was very soft and low.

"Lajee."

Petilil nodded; Gengar had already told her on the way.

"Shauna, can I ask you a question? Please."

There was no response for a long time, until Lucas was about to speak again, when Shauna poked her head out again.

Seeing that little head, Lucas spoke softly: "Do you think she's cute?"

Lucas held up the Petilil in his arms and asked.

After Lucas's careful nurturing during this period, Petilil had become even cuter, especially after Lucas trimmed the leaves on her head, making her look like a small onion.

Shauna didn't reply; she stared intently at the Petilil held in Lucas's hand.

"Lajee."

Hello.

Hearing Petilil's sweet voice, Shauna nodded.

But this time, she didn't shrink back.

"How about it? Do you want to hold her? She says you're very cute too."

Hearing this, Shauna looked up at the others, finding them smiling and encouraging her.

She clutched her father's pants tightly and slowly emerged from behind him, almost fully out, then suddenly shrank back.

She peeked out.

Lucas in front of her still wore a gentle smile, his eyes full of warmth, signaling her to try.

Petilil also extended her tiny arms.

"Lajee~"

She continued to carefully move away from behind her parents, the whole process very slow.

But no one or Pokémon urged her.

Until she arrived beside Lucas with her head down, trembling as she extended her hands.

A gust of wind blew, startling her into retracting her hands, but before her hands fully retracted, a heavy sensation came from her arms.

She quickly hugged tightly, and looking at the Petilil in her arms, her body stopped trembling.

Seeing this scene, Lucas breathed a sigh of relief.

"Indeed, being cute is unbeatable."

Lucas secretly mused to himself.

"How does it feel, holding her."

Hearing the voice from in front of her, she looked intently at the Petilil in her arms, and nodded lightly.

Immediately after, she heard the young man's voice from in front of her again.

"Do you know, Pokémon are everywhere in this world; in forests, in the sky, in oceans, in grasslands, we can see them everywhere, and they form all sorts of bonds with us humans."

Lucas spoke the passage he loved most from his previous life; it was precisely because of this passage that he yearned so much to come to the world of Pokémon.

"Some of them live in uninhabited houses, fond of mischief; some wander around, helping humans in need; some strive constantly for their beloved Trainers; some help Trainers heal people and Pokémon; some help Trainers catch criminals and maintain public order."

Everyone and every Pokémon around was drawn in by Lucas's gentle voice.

"Without them, the Breeding House might not even be able to open."

Gengar flew around, tongue out and lips twitching, Petilil chirped sweetly, and Machamp saluted.

"Without Blissey, the Pokémon Center would be hard-pressed to manage."

"Happi."

Blissey glanced at Joy, then gently patted the egg in her arms.

"Without Growlithe, Jenny would have a hard time apprehending criminals."

Growlithe panted with its tongue out, its tail wagging incessantly, and Jenny, seeing this, squatted down to pet its head.

"Pokémon are also our indispensable friends."

"They will accompany us, never leaving our side."

Shauna looked up and glanced around.

She liked Blissey; she often took care of her. She liked Growlithe; he often played with her… Friends… Shauna's eyes were filled with confusion.

She was afraid of everything unfamiliar, whether it was people or Pokémon.

Except for the Petilil in her arms.

Lucas noticed that the emotions in her eyes when she looked at Blissey and the others were different from when she looked at Gengar and its kind.

He vaguely understood something.

"Shauna."

Shauna looked at Lucas, the fear on her face greatly diminished; she was now waiting for Lucas's words.

"Do you… like Pokémon?"

As Lucas's words fell, Shauna's eyes suddenly widened, and her small mouth slightly opened.

Many images flashed through her mind: Blissey coaxing her to sleep peacefully, Growlithe building sandcastles with her, and some stray Pokémon she had fed.

She came back to her senses, looking at Lucas in front of her.

Lucas was waiting for her answer.

At this moment, sunlight streamed through the Breeding House's main door, scattering into the Breeding House, falling on Lucas's face and behind him.

Looking at Lucas, who was smiling in the sunlight, Shauna nodded gently.

"Li… like."

Her voice was barely a whisper, but everyone and every Pokémon in the Breeding House heard it clearly.

A gentle light flashed in Lucas's eyes, Joy and Jenny looked incredulous, and Shauna's parents covered their mouths, tears instantly filling their eyes.

After a long while, her mother wiped away her tears, then squatted down, put an arm around her shoulder, and softly said.

"Then Shauna, how about we get a Pokémon?"

Hearing her mother's words, Shauna's body trembled slightly again.

"It's okay, we can start by hatching a Pokémon Egg, that way you can adapt beforehand and also develop your feelings."

Lucas's voice came again.

He had already figured out why Shauna was like this.

Hearing Lucas's words, Shauna finally looked up at her parents.

"Can… can I? Dad… Mom… Mom…"

"Yes, of course you can, my little Shauna."

Her mother hugged Shauna and cried, then spoke.

Her father turned away, wiped his tears, then looked at Lucas.

"Do you have any Pokémon Eggs here?"
