Chapter 31 - Chapter 31-When Help Arrives

When Xin Ying opened her mouth to speak, pain still burning through her shattered arm—

She didn't.

Instead, she stood.

Ignoring the agony screaming through her body, Xin Ying forced herself upright and swung her good arm with everything she had left.

Crack.

Her fist slammed into Ling Zhihao's chin.

The impact sent him stumbling backward, shock flashing across his face as he crashed to the ground.

Before he could recover—

The roar of an engine tore through the night.

A red Lamborghini screeched into the parking lot, headlights cutting through the darkness like a blade.

The passenger door flew open.

"Xin Ying!" Li Yuetong shouted as she jumped out.

Her wife remained behind the wheel, the engine still running.

Ling Zhihao scrambled to his feet, fury twisting his expression—but he didn't get far.

Li Yuetong moved fast.

She lunged forward, twisting his arm behind his back with practiced precision and forcing him down. In seconds, she had him restrained, rope snapping tight around his wrists.

"Stay down," she said coldly.

Ling Zhihao cursed violently, struggling—but it was useless.

Li Yuetong pulled out her phone.

"Police. Now."

She didn't wait for a response.

Instead, she turned sharply toward Xin Ying, whose knees were trembling as adrenaline began to fade.

"Get her in the car," Li Yuetong ordered.

Zhi Han rushed to Xin Ying's side, carefully supporting her broken arm.

"I'm here," Zhi Han whispered urgently. "I've got you."

They hurried into the car, the door slamming shut just as sirens began to echo in the distance.

The Lamborghini peeled away from the scene.

The hospital was bright—too bright.

Everything moved quickly.

Xin Ying barely had time to register what was happening before doctors surrounded her, carefully examining her arm.

"She has a fracture," one of them said. "We'll set it immediately."

Zhi Han stood outside the room, fists clenched, nails biting into her palms as she waited.

I almost lost her again.

When Xin Ying finally emerged, her arm was secured in a thick bandage and sling. Her face was pale, but her eyes were still clear.

Zhi Han rushed to her side.

"Does it hurt?" she asked softly.

Xin Ying smiled weakly. "I've had worse, better than losing an eye."

Zhi Han's eyes filled with tears.

Later that night, they returned to Zhi Han's mansion.

The house was quiet, lights warm and steady—safe.

Xin Ying sat on the couch, exhaustion finally settling into her bones. Zhi Han carefully adjusted a pillow behind her back.

"You shouldn't have stood up," Zhi Han said, voice shaking. "You could've—"

"I couldn't let him decide," Xin Ying replied gently. "Not again."

Zhi Han swallowed hard.

She knelt in front of Xin Ying, pressing her forehead to Xin Ying's knee.

"This world… that man… I thought I escaped it," she whispered. "But you're still here. You always are."

Xin Ying lifted her good hand and rested it on Zhi Han's head.

"I told you," she said softly. "I'll protect you. No matter which world we're in."

Outside, the city lights glimmered.

And for the first time since crossing worlds—

They were finally safe.
