Chapter 60 - The Mysterious Phone Call

"I ordered one last night, but it will take at least three days to arrive," Kasumigaoka Utaha said helplessly.

"Even if I pay extra, it still takes three days."

"Three days of torture... I don't dare imagine what I'll become."

"Maybe in three days, you'll already be used to the existence of evil spirits?" Kawashima Toya teased.

"It's not that easy..." Utaha had heavy dark circles under her eyes; the fear and anxiety all night had exhausted her.

If not for encountering various grotesquely terrifying evil spirits from time to time, she might have fallen asleep right there.

Just as she was making idle chatter, a middle-aged salaryman in a suit walked toward them.

Seeing the man's appearance, Utaha shuddered and snapped awake.

The middle-aged man had actually merged with a ghost, forming a bizarre harmony.

"That uncle is possessed by an evil spirit..."

Toya interrupted Utaha's remark, reminding her calmly, "There's nothing wrong with that salaryman uncle."

"And there's nothing wrong with the evil spirit hanging on him either. Don't be too nervous."

"Evil spirits have no physical form. It just passed through his body, creating an illusion that made you think he was possessed."

Utaha felt she was being overly vigilant; prolonged exhaustion made her jumpy.

Walking along, more examples of evil spirits sticking to people appeared constantly.

It proved she was indeed overthinking it. Evil spirits merely stuck to people and couldn't influence their behavior.

Ten minutes later, Toya led Utaha into the Trash Fox Detective Agency.

"Kawashima, are there really no evil spirits here?"

Utaha subconsciously stuck close to Toya, observing the interior of the agency cautiously, afraid an evil spirit would suddenly pop out.

Toya glanced at Utaha beside him and walked straight to his seat.

"Check for yourself if there are any evil spirits. Once you're done checking, go do whatever you need to do."

"Don't disturb me."

His cold dismissal made Utaha's pretty face fill with indignation.

"You're too much!"

"I, Kasumigaoka Utaha, am one of the beauties of Private Toyogasaki Academy, yet you disdain me like this?"

"With behavior like that, you'll be single forever."

Toya looked at Utaha's curvaceous figure with a smile. "Aside from being a bit timid, you do have some advantages."

"As for being single forever, time will tell."

What a joke. How could a transmigrator be single?

Let alone one with a system.

Utaha rolled her eyes at Toya and put down the bags she had prepared early.

Putting on a damsel-in-distress act, she said:

"Since Lord Kawashima says so, I'll go check if the agency is clean!"

"If it's not clean, please come save me immediately, Lord Kawashima!"

Not long after, Utaha was surprised to find that there were indeed no evil spirits in the agency.

Even the unused second and third floors were the same. Aside from feeling exceptionally empty to someone spooked by ghosts like her, there was nothing there.

Although there was nothing, last night's experience made her afraid of empty areas, fearing an evil spirit would jump out.

"Better go back to the first floor quickly!"

At this moment, in the first-floor lobby.

Ring, ring—

Utaha's phone lit up, constantly showing missed calls.

Toya looked at the vibrating, ringing phone on the table with amusement. "Interesting!"

"To dare call into the Trash Fox Detective Agency?"

Unnoticed by most, a faint aura of evil spirits was entwined around the phone, proving this call was not simple.

This was what surprised him. The Trash Fox Detective Agency was protected by an angel halo.

How did an evil spirit dare to face the angel's holy light, let alone make this call within a lobby filled with it?

Just then, Utaha came downstairs and saw Toya staring at her phone, seemingly in thought.

Utaha picked up her phone with her slender, pale hand and asked in confusion, "Kawashima, why aren't you answering?"

Saying this, she moved to tap the answer button.

"Because I'm wondering why an evil spirit's aura is wrapped around your phone."

Toya's calm words struck Utaha's mind like a bolt from the blue. Terrified, she froze immediately. "There's an evil spirit?"

"Is this a call from an evil spirit?"

Utaha was so scared she threw the phone onto the table.

Clatter!

The phone hit the table with a crisp sound and flipped over several times.

Her fear of evil spirits had seeped into her bones, and Utaha hurriedly hid behind Toya.

"Kawashima, what do we do?"

"Let's wait and see!" Toya stared at the phone with interest, intending neither to answer nor hang up.
