I was sitting at a table in the middle of the school party, playing games on my mobile phone and completely ignoring everyone else. I heard Caroline calling my name. She came over to me and said,
"Aaron, why are you sitting here alone? Go and talk to people. This is a party,go have some fun."
She then lowered her voice and added, "Or maybe drink a little."
I laughed and shook my head. "No, I'm fine. I'm pretty sure Mom wouldn't like that."
Caroline rolled her eyes. "Don't take her name now and ruin the fun. Also, Elena came here ditching her family's dinner."
I replied in amazement, "Really?"
Then I looked for her in the crowd and saw Elena, but she was with Matt. Even from a distance, I could tell they were arguing.
I turned to Caroline. "Hey, Caroline, I think Elena and her boyfriend are arguing."
Caroline just shrugged it off. "Yeah. Though Elena is right. Matt wanted to talk about the future and do family planning. Like, they're still teenagers. Where's the rush?"
I raised my eyebrow. "Well, if you say so."
Then I saw Elena storm out of the party. After that, I didn't think about her anymore. I shifted my attention back to my mobile game and went home with caroline after the party ended.
Later that night, I heard from my mom that Elena's parents had gotten into a car accident. The funeral was held tomorrow morning.Me and my sister we both went to the funeral. The funeral was tough. Both my sister and I went to the Gilbert siblings to comfort them. Jeremy was more devastated. Even though Elena felt the same pain, she pulled herself together and comforted Jeremy. I could see it in Elena's eyes—it was more than grief; it was guilt. I heard that when she left the party, she had called her parents to pick her up, and later they had to take an alternative road home due to the main road being blocked, where they get into the accident on Wickery Bridge.
I also saw Elena's aunt and uncle at the funeral.
I can tell that this accident completely changed Elena and Jeremy's lives.
