Chapter 1 - First Contact

What would happen if godlike power was placed in the hands of a regular being? I do wonder...

First Contact

They were soulless, but I still felt those eyes pierce my soul. They were the eyes of a predator with only one intention. To hunt. It was about three times the size of me with four muscular arms that looked as though they could snap me in half and as it opened its mouth, a multitude of razor-like fangs lined its gums.

I felt enclosed, two walls, two exits, surrounded by the locked doors of a market that had been long abandoned since they invaded. The light of the outside engulfed the back of the creature leaving a clearly defining silhouette of the mountainous monstrosity. I thought if I stood still and held my breath, I would be safe, that's what they do in the movies right?

But as soon as it made on step forward, I knew that it was time to plan B:

get the hell out of there.

With not a second thought, I spun and pelted to the other exit. The creature let out the grizzling growl of a predator watching its prey try to escape. That did not stop it however, as I could hear the stomps and crashes as it chased after me, laying waste to anything that got in its way. I wanted to crawl up into a ball in some dark corner somewhere, where I could cry and hide and nothing could get me, but the fear kept me running I couldn't feel my legs anymore, they were just moving on their own.

Street after street, alley after alleyway. Just running, so much so that I hadn't even noticed the fact that the creature wasn't following me anymore and I was stood in the middle of a long open road.

I was bathed in shadow. Yet I was stood in the middle of the open in broad daylight. I looked up to see what was disturbing the sunlight and then everything made sense. That's why the whole Rengappon police force was on high alert and why I was rushed out of the station, forced to drop everything I was doing to help the evacuation effort. Of course, I already knew this, but it didn't make any sense and the chaos and destruction around me had laid waste to any sense I had.

– What are we supposed to do against monsters beyond our comprehension.

– What are we supposed to do to stop the endless destruction.

– Who could possibly destroy the giant spaceship that was currently hovering over us.

Car wrecks, lifeless corpses, smoke, fire all enveloped the city I called home for the past three years.

A large hand obscured my field of view.

I should have stayed at home, in the countryside, with mum and dad.

It felt like time was moving at a snail's pace, but I could tell the hand was getting closer.

Is this how my life as Himiko Suzuki ends?

I don't want to die...

Despite the overwhelming dread that consumed me, I hadn't died, and what hadn't threatened my death was no more, within a millisecond, before I had chance to comprehend what was going on, the creature was gone, I was safe. My legs couldn't hold out anymore and I fell to my knees. Why am I not dead? What happened? I turned around.

There he? Them? It? Whatever it was, stood there, like a god among men, it looked like a person, like a man but glowing fluorescent purple all over. It looked like he was made of pure energy, like an ocean moulded into the shape of a man.

He looked back for a second, as though to check if I was okay. I could see myself in the reflection of his eyes, a skinny young woman with medium black hair tied into a loose ponytail staring back into his, afraid. Beside him laid the corpse of the creature who seemed so omnipotent, yet in a single moment, was removed of all life. It was a hunk of lifeless meat with a huge hole in its chest now, and everything inside of it that allowed it to live, breathe and eat was spread out on the road behind it.

I wish I could thank him but within an instant, three more shot down from the spaceship above and almost without a second thought started sprinting towards us.

The being in front accepted the challenge, stepping forward with unwavering determination despite the threat approaching him. He stopped for a moment and turned to one of the creatures, the far right one and singled him out. He lowered himself, resembling that of an athlete at the top of his game, preparing himself to start a sprint and launched himself at his target. He snatched the creature and launched him straight into a parked car. The creature and whatever pieces were left of the car were lodged into the ground.

As if they were lifeless robots, the others were unaffected by what had just happened to their ally. However, the being in purple didn't give them a chance to do anything and flew straight at them slicing one clean in half and as the other went to attack, without even giving it chance to grace him with a punch, the being sent it flying into a building beside them.

I don't know the events that just happened had anything to do with it, but the ship above made a mechanic howl and lifted off, leaving the devastation it had left behind. However, that seemed to be the cue for my saviour as he turned to me, signalled to me what looked like a piece sign with his index and middle fingers before flying off.

In the last couple of minutes, I've experienced more than I ever have in my 21 years of life.

3 hours Later:

"I'm telling you. This weird ghost spirit thing, who looked like a man but instead of skin, had weird glowing energy or whatever, came out of nowhere and killed them all!" I had insisted multiple times to my boss, superintendent Makoto Isamu. She stared at me sternly but wavered and smiled.

"Officer Suzuki, whilst everything you've just said sounds cartoonish, we have had similar reports from all over the city and as far fetch as this sounds, these similar stories have been reported since the incident in Okopo a year ago. Reports of an alien being swooping down and saving people. Some have even claimed he's some messenger sent from God."

Really? How is this not common news? Is she serious, she's just smirking, giving no indication that she's joking.

As I lie in bed, pondering the events prior. An alien? A messenger from God? But he looked too human, he always seemed to make sure I was okay and even gesture he sent before he left.

Maybe he's human.
