Chapter 12 - A monster does not belong in the light

I already have the computer for almost 2 weeks, but I have been busy with work, even on the weekend.

Besides some family problems, nothing with me, but rather with family members. Maybe I started off on the wrong foot this year, but not everything is bad and I am grateful for all the good I have.

Unfortunately, the laptop was formatted, so I lost the extra chapters I had already written, so I have been taking my time to rewrite them all. The schedule will be 3 chapters per week as agreed, unless some unforeseen event occurs.

As I had already said, this novel is being made with the intention of me gaining experience, I had an original novel that unfortunately I also lost the chapters of, but it's my fault, I should have stored them in the cloud.

So, to avoid making the same mistake, as soon as I have chapters I will keep them stored. The name of the original novel is:

Blood&Light - Everything that lurks in the shadows

For now I will leave just the prologue since it is not my focus, so there may not be many updates, maybe 1 chapter per week.

Not much has changed since the last time I saw Lilith, I may not feel it in my body, but I notice in everything around me that the years keep passing without interruption.

Perhaps this is the greatest punishment, I am trapped in eternity while everything around me continues to change.

As I continue my journey, I see a few houses in the distance, certainly of commoners due to the material they are made of.

As I approach, people look at me all suspiciously and with a bit of fear, afraid of something even if not of me. One of the villagers approaches me with a pitchfork and asks cautiously:

-"Who are you and what are you doing here, stranger?" asks the villager as he looks at my body all covered.

-"A traveler from afar, I have no other intentions, I just seek some shelter and will continue my journey," says Kael friendly.

-"Why do you hide your face?" says the villager, a bit apprehensive.

-"My skin is more fragile, it burns easily in the sun and it can be quite painful! My name is Kael," says Kael.

-"My name is Augustin, I apologize for the bad reception, but people went missing last night!" says Augustin sadly.

- "Missing? Maybe bandits or some animal?" says Kael while mentally suspecting his own kind.

-"Howls were heard during the night, but it's common to have wolves in these lands. Only in the morning did we see that David's family disappeared, including the children!" says Augustin sadly.

We continued talking for a while until I was invited to spend the night at Augustin's house; due to the events of the previous night, he told me it was safer to spend the night in the village. Upon reaching the house, I noticed a boy of about 11 peeking through the door. Augustin introduced me as his son Arthur along with his wife Louise. His son's room was given to me to rest while the child would sleep with his parents.

The sun begins to set and darkness embraces the world, during the night I begin to smell a disgusting odor, something I have never felt before. When I get up, I smell a new scent, sweeter and metallic, blood.

I go to Augustin's room and find the mother and the boy in bed, alert when howls are heard coming from outside.

-"Where is Augustin?" Kael asks Louise.

-"He went outside!" says Louise as she hugs Arthur

I try to smell Augustin but I can't, this disgusting smell engulfs the air and keeps me from using my senses.

-"Follow me and stay close!" says Kael

The mother shows fear but when she looks at her son she finds a courage greater than the fear that engulfs her.

As I leave the house I see houses burning, I take the child and drag the mother to the only stone house in the village where I see some children already hiding.

When I set down the child, she accidentally pulls the cloth covering my head and white hair falls over my shoulders.

Everyone in the house looks at me with a bit of apprehension when I gently run my hand over Arthur's head.

-"It's okay, I'll go get your father!" says Kael confidently.

As I leave I start to follow the howls, I see some dismembered limbs and guts scattered around the village.

In the distance I see a large creature similar to a wolf in human form, when I see Augustin in danger trying to protect a child along with other villagers I quickly appear in front of him and take the werewolf's blow. His claws cut through my skin and cracks appear on my arms, as soon as I gain control of my body I give the werewolf a blow and throw him several meters uprooting several trees in the process.

Augustin looks at me with surprise and fear while together with other villagers protects those who cannot fight.

I continue to look at the trees with apprehension when this time two werewolves come out of the forest. Calmly, I begin to plan my next move; they are very strong, and their claws cut my skin as if it were nothing. The two werewolves, without giving me time, attack at the same time. Although they are strong, I can easily dodge their attacks. I don't see intelligence in their attack patterns; it's more as if it's just instinct. As soon as I get the first opportunity, I slip behind one and, with great strength, pierce his chest, ripping out his heart.

Because of my finishing blow, the other catches me unprepared and rips off one of my arms. Now, with only one arm, I look at the remaining werewolf as he attacks me again. Because I can see all of his movements, I easily dodge and try to attack him with the only arm I have, but without success.

This time, before the werewolf can attack, I decide to attack first and appear behind him, grabbing his neck with my remaining arm and my legs around his waist while his body quickly begins to age until nothing is left.

As soon as the fight ends, I grab my arm and realign it; as soon as I can move my hand again, I see Augustin pointing the pitchfork at me. In his eyes, I see the same reflection as when he looked at the werewolves, the reflection of a monster.

-"Go away, monster!" says Augustin as he stands in front of the villagers.

I calmly smile and slightly tilt my body.

-"Thank you for the hospitality and my condolences for those who passed away today!" says Kael sadly.

As soon as the words leave my mouth, I head into the darkness of the forest, a monster will never have a place in the light.
