No greeting.

They're voting tonight.

Her pulse didn't spike. It slowed.

She stared at the screen, absorbing the words with a strange, detached clarity. Voting meant options. Options meant outcomes. Outcomes meant someone would lose.

A second message arrived.

Lucas is being forced to make a public decision.

She closed her eyes.
